Job summary

NMDC Careers is seeking a Port Engineer to provide full-time technical support for the project’s support craft fleet. You will ensure vessels stay safe, compliant, and fully operational to prevent delays and support project activities.

You will monitor vessel technical conditions, coordinate maintenance, and address mechanical, electrical, and structural issues while collaborating with crews and subcontractors to close findings promptly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent.
  • 3–7 years in marine/offshore vessel operations or related maintenance.
  • Knowledge of marine systems, maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Familiar with classification society and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Follow up on open observations, deficiencies, and inspection findings; ensure timely closure.
  • Coordinate with Operations, HSE, Marine, and Procurement for repairs and spare parts.
  • Support vessel mobilization, modifications, and prepare technical reports.
  • Supervise repair activities in port or drydock and ensure compliance with project standards.

Job description

The Port Engineer will be responsible for providing full-time technical support and oversight for all support craft vessels operating under the project. The role will focus on ensuring vessels remain safe, compliant, and fully operational to support project activities without delays.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include monitoring the technical condition of vessels, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and structural issues are addressed promptly. The Port Engineer will follow up on open observations, deficiencies, and inspection findings and work closely with vessel crews and subcontractors to ensure timely closure.

The role will also involve coordinating with Operations, HSE, Marine, and Procurement teams to plan repairs, manage spare parts requirements, and support vessel mobilization or modifications when required. The Port Engineer will assist in preparing technical reports, reviewing work scopes, supervising repair activities in port or drydock, and ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with project requirements and applicable marine standards.

Additionally, the Port Engineer will support vessel inspections, audits, and regulatory or class-related requirements when applicable. The position requires strong coordination with project stakeholders to maintain operational readiness of the support craft fleet and ensure compliance with safety and technical standards.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent technical field.

Experience: Minimum 3-7 years of experience in marine or offshore vessel operations, preferably with support craft or utility vessels. Experience in vessel maintenance, drydock operations, or technical coordination is highly desirable.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of marine systems (mechanical, electrical, and structural), vessel maintenance, and repair procedures. Familiarity with classification society and regulatory compliance requirements.

Project & Safety Awareness: Understanding of project operations, HSE requirements, and safety management systems. Ability to implement safety standards during maintenance and operational activities.

Soft Skills: Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with vessel crews, subcontractors, and project teams.

Certifications: Marine Engineer certification or relevant statutory certifications are preferred. Valid offshore or port access certificates may be an advantage.

Other Requirements: Willingness to be stationed on-site full-time and support 24/7 operational requirements as needed
