Description
Role: Teaching Associate - Interior Architecture and Design
Contract Duration: Open Ended
Grade: 6
Location: Dubai Campus
We have staff across two campuses and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate degree education, taught and research degrees. We have an energetic research culture and an increasing design research funding portfolio.
You would join an international team at our Dubai Campus where our staff contribute to a forward-thinking environment for teaching, learning, research, enterprise, and knowledge exchange. You will further enhance a community of committed academics and highly motivated students. Our industry-facing focus on careers delivers results, and we have an excellent reputation for graduate employability. Our funded research portfolio champions ethics, excellence, and rigour. Every aspect of business is underpinned by Heriot-Watt's pioneering spirit.
The design portfolio on the Dubai campus is growing. We focus on industrial, social, smart, sustainable cities, and systemic design. Currently, we offer Communication Design, Fashion Branding and Promotion, Interior Architecture Design, and Design Management. They are delivered by passionate and dedicated academics from various backgrounds with distinctly diverse specialisms. As a discipline, design is a creative practice with innovative methods. It has many forms of innovation, from cultural and environmental to social and technological. Our community is committed to understanding design in contexts such as Climate Change, Health Care and Wellbeing, NetZero, and Future Mobility. All programmes and courses are delivered cooperatively within our Dubai campus and collaboratively with our UK campuses.
The School of Textiles and Design on the Dubai campus is seeking to recruit enthusiastic academics with experience in teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to build their teaching over time and showcase high-quality teaching pedagogies. Successful candidates will also be expected to develop strong links with colleagues at the Scottish campuses to deliver high-quality learning and teaching.
The successful candidate will possess a broad practical and theoretical knowledge of Interior Architecture and Design, and we are particularly interested in candidates with practical digital technologies expertise specific to the field, e.g., Revit, 3DMax, Laser-cutting, 3d modelling for interiors, while extending to virtual environments using appropriate software such as Blender. Postholders will lead or oversee (as necessary) the development of existing courses to support industry-facing practices and student employability.
Teaching should be grounded in 21st-century design studies with appropriate input from historical, theoretical, and practical perspectives. Given the broad, fast-moving, and collaborative nature of today's industries and associated technologies, we expect the successful individual to work proactively within and across traditional discipline boundaries. We also expect the successful applicant to cooperatively contribute to teaching existing courses and collaboratively create new ones across the campuses where and as it benefits the student experience.
The role will be based at the University's campus in Dubai. Courses and programmes will be delivered in English, so fluency in English is essential. All new academic staff will be inducted into Heriot-Watt's standards and values, and an induction programme will be delivered to give practical experience in preparation, delivery, and assessment of teaching.
