Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer for on-site supervision of stormwater, drainage, irrigation and utility structures in Dubai, UAE. You will ensure compliance with project specs, authorities and QA/QC standards while coordinating with contractors and multidisciplinary teams.

You will review shop drawings, method statements and RFIs, monitor construction progress and safety, and support closeout activities. UAE/GCC experience is preferred for this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in construction supervision of infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in stormwater, drainage, irrigation, utility, roads, and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete structures, foundations, retaining walls, culverts, utility structures, and pumping station structures.
  • Experience with QA/QC procedures, inspection processes, and contract compliance.
  • Familiarity with UAE authority regulations and infrastructure project requirements.
  • UAE/GCC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspect structural construction activities related to stormwater, irrigation, drainage, pumping stations, culverts, manholes, chambers, utility structures, retaining walls and foundations.
  • Ensure all structural works comply with project specifications, approved drawings, contract requirements, and DM/RTA/DEWA requirements.
  • Review and provide comments on structural shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, RFIs, temporary works, and as-built drawings.
  • Verify construction activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Coordinate with contractors, designers, utility authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design discrepancies.
  • Monitor contractor performance, construction sequencing, and progress to meet schedules.
  • Direct, supervise, and coordinate structural inspectors and site supervision staff.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits for workmanship and quality compliance.
  • Identify, document, and report non-conformances and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Interface structural works with roads, stormwater drainage, irrigation, utilities and other infrastructure elements.
  • Attend progress meetings, authority inspections, and coordination meetings to resolve site issues.
  • Monitor testing activities related to concrete works, reinforcement installation, and other structural elements.
  • Assist Senior Resident Engineer in reviewing contractor claims, variations, design changes, and technical submissions.
  • Support snagging, project closeout, and handover activities with proper documentation.

Job Description

The Structural Engineer will be responsible for supervising and inspecting structural works associated with stormwater, drainage, irrigation, pumping stations, utility structures, retaining structures, culverts, chambers, and other infrastructure assets. The role requires ensuring compliance with project specifications, authority requirements, quality standards, contractual obligations, and HSE regulations throughout the construction lifecycle.

  • Supervise and inspect all structural construction activities related to stormwater, irrigation, drainage, pumping stations, culverts, manholes, chambers, utility structures, retaining walls, foundations, and associated infrastructure works.
  • Ensure all structural works comply with project specifications, approved drawings, contract requirements, and the requirements of Dubai Municipality (DM), RTA, DEWA, and other relevant authorities.
  • Review and provide comments on structural shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, RFIs, temporary works, and as-built drawings.
  • Verify that construction activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Coordinate with contractors, designers, utility authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve structural design discrepancies, clashes, and site-related issues.
  • Monitor contractor performance, construction sequencing, and progress to ensure works are completed in accordance with approved schedules.
  • Direct, supervise, and coordinate the activities of structural inspectors and site supervision staff.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify workmanship, quality compliance, and adherence to approved construction procedures.
  • Identify, document, and report non-conformances (NCRs) and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure structural works interface effectively with roads, stormwater drainage networks, irrigation systems, utilities, and other infrastructure elements.
  • Attend progress meetings, technical workshops, authority inspections, and coordination meetings to assist in resolving site and construction issues.
  • Monitor testing activities related to structural works, including concrete works, reinforcement installation, structural elements, and material compliance.
  • Assist the Senior Resident Engineer in reviewing contractor claims, variations, design changes, and technical submissions.
  • Support snagging, project closeout, and handover activities, ensuring all structural works are completed and documented in accordance with project requirements.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports highlighting construction status, quality observations, risks, and recommendations.
  • Monitor compliance with project HSE requirements and intervene when unsafe practices or work methods are observed.
