Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a highly competent and experienced Structural Design Engineer – Steel & Temporary Structures to join our Engineering Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and coordination of structural steelwork, temporary works, and specialist engineered systems used across the construction, industrial, infrastructure, and event sectors.

The role involves designing a wide range of temporary and permanent structural systems, including stages, platforms, temporary roofs, access systems, scaffold-supported structures, bespoke steelwork, towers, and other complex engineered solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in structural analysis, steel connection design, BIM modelling, and temporary works engineering while ensuring compliance with applicable UAE standards and international engineering codes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare structural design concepts, engineering calculations, technical reports, design models, and construction drawings.
• Design structural steelwork and temporary structures to meet strength, stability, serviceability, durability, and safety requirements.
• Develop engineering solutions for:
• Temporary roofs
• Event stages and platforms
• Access systems
• Towers and support frames
• Bespoke steel structures
• Industrial temporary works
• Design steel members, trusses, beams, columns, frames, connections, brackets, base plates, and supporting systems.
• Perform structural steel connection design using IDEA StatiCa or equivalent connection design software.
• Carry out structural analysis using recognized engineering software and verify compliance with applicable design codes.
• Ensure all designs consider erection methodology, temporary construction stages, usage, dismantling, transportation, and site constraints.

BIM & Design Coordination

• Develop and coordinate BIM models using Revit, Tekla Structures, or equivalent 3D modelling software.
• Coordinate structural models and drawings with architects, project engineers, fabricators, contractors, and external consultants.
• Produce coordinated engineering drawings and ensure design consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review architectural drawings, project specifications, loading criteria, and construction methodologies.

Technical Review & Site Support

• Conduct site surveys to verify dimensions, support conditions, interfaces, and installation constraints.
• Review fabrication drawings and construction documentation to ensure compliance with approved engineering designs.
• Respond to technical queries and provide practical engineering solutions during fabrication and construction.
• Revise structural designs where project requirements or site conditions change.
• Clearly document design assumptions, limitations, engineering risks, and verification requirements.
• Submit completed designs for internal technical review or independent checking before issuance.

Project Delivery

• Deliver engineering work within agreed project schedules and quality standards.
• Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve project objectives.
• Manage multiple design assignments while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional engineering certification or membership with a recognized engineering institution is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in structural steel design, temporary works, or specialist structural engineering.
• Proven experience designing structural steelwork and temporary structures for construction, industrial, or event projects.
• Experience with stages, temporary roofs, scaffolding, access systems, towers, or other temporary engineered structures is highly desirable.
• Experience working within the UAE or GCC construction industry is preferred.
