Job description

This position is responsible for providing general and specialized direct and indirect patient care through the application of evidence based nursing procedures and practices to patients of all ages on an assigned nursing unit. This position is also responsible for demonstrating competency in the behavioral, growth, development and psychosocial needs of patients being treated.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
  • Completes timely patient admission and ongoing assessments, plans and updates plan of care based on individual patient needs
  • Provides direct care and evaluates outcomes, incorporating principles of family centered care
  • Monitors and documents patients’ condition and effectiveness of care and interventions
  • Assesses educational needs of patients and significant others considering cultural needs and other special concerns
  • Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant as appropriate
  • Validates and documents patient and family understand of teaching
  • Administers prescribed medications in accordance with approved policies and protocols, utilizing barcode scanning
  • Carries out prescribed treatments in accordance with approved policies, protocols and educational material procedures
Clinical / Professional Knowledge
  • Use the knowledge of one’s own role and the roles of other professions to appropriately assess and address the health care needs of the patients and populations served
  • Demonstrates commitment to providing evidence based practice care by: adhering to protocols for the care of patient populations in which assigned, reporting needed changes in practice supported by evidence, and participating in evaluating patient outcomes utilizing evidence
  • Delegates appropriate components of the nursing care plan to other members of the nursing team
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and family information by promoting professional interdisciplinary communication
  • Respects Patient Rights and demonstrates behaviors of a Patients’ First Philosophy
  • Incorporates the CCAD Professional Practice model and patient safety principles into clinical practice
  • Reports errors and near-misses
  • Responsible for completing charge capture education and in‑service training for their Institute within CCAD. When charges are not captured automatically the nurse will complete within Epic in real time, Perioperative Services within 24 business hours

  • Leads the caregiver team in the delivery of patient care collaborating with other disciplines to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Typical physical demands include a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, exposure to communicable disease or body fluids, extensive standing and walking, working under stressful conditions and some irregular hours, handling and lifting patients, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualification & Experience Requirements
Education
  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification is required
  • Essential: Minimum three (3) year curriculum in Nursing from an accredited program is required
  • Essential: Associate Degree Nurses from North America with evidence of passing the National exam is required (USA: NCLEX – RN & Canada: Licensing Exam)
Experience
  • Essential: Minimum of two (2) years post‑graduate experience in a general surgery / operating room setting is required
  • Note: experience requirement is waived for graduates of UAE Nursing colleges or universities after completion of an approved internship
Certifications and Licensure
  • Valid and current national license is required
  • BLS is required from AHA or an equivalent organization, or must be obtained within 3 months of employment
  • ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty is required, from AHA or an equivalent organization; or must obtain within 6 months of employment
