Job summary

NMC in Abu Dhabi seeks a Specialist Surgeon to provide comprehensive surgical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and operative management for inpatients and outpatients. The role involves pre- and post-operative assessment, patient communication, and collaboration with medical teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The successful candidate will contribute to clinical quality standards, participate in mandatory training, and uphold OSH and PCI policies in a hospital setting in the United Arab

Qualifications

  • Basic medical degree and specialty qualification recognized by UAE authorities.
  • Active registration with UAE healthcare authority.
  • Life support certification (BLS/ACLS/PALS/ATLS/NRP).
  • Eligibility for UAE registration (Royal College/Arab Board etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Prescribes or administers medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Interacts with patient to gather history and information.
  • Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patient.
  • Performs surgical procedures and operations as appropriate.
  • Undertake pre- and post-operative assessment of patients.
  • Contribute to development of Clinical Quality Standards.

Specific Responsibilities for this Role
  • Prescribes or administers medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Interacts with patient to gather additional history and information about medical condition
  • Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patient
  • Provides specific treatments and/or performs operations to treat patient medical conditions
  • Performs surgical procedures and operations as appropriate.
  • Responsible to carry out necessary duties to ensure the best and most cost-effective treatment of patients.
  • To provide a full range of surgical diagnosis, treatment and care to inpatients, day cases and outpatients who require general surgery. It is expected that the post-holder will hold further special interests in either upper- or lower general surgical practice.
  • To undertake pre and post-operative assessment of patients.
  • To contribute to the development of Clinical Quality Standards.
  • To undertake all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, including but not limited to clinical coding, discharge summaries, letters and reports.
  • To be responsible to the Medical Director for the quality of care delivered and the effective and efficient use of the resources under his/her control.
  • To contribute to the planning and development of surgical services.
  • Responsible for applying medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of illnesses for patients.
  • Promote patient care by liaison with all departments.
  • Participate in local and national specialty clinical meetings
  • Participate in the in-service education programme and comply with mandatory training requirements, inclusive of CPR, Health & Safety Training and Fire Safety.
  • To ensure ongoing medical competence by participating in the annual relicensing and recertification schemes in United Arab Emirates.
  • To maintain and develop professional expertise through self-directed learning and continuous professional development.
  • To participate in the annual appraisal system with the Medical Director, which will feedback from the Hospital Administrator and other colleagues/patients.

Qualifications
  • At least 3 - 5 years’ post qualification experience at Specialist level (independent of country)
  • At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
  • Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
  • Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority. Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
  • Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration e.g. Membership from Royal College / Arab Board Certification / MS / DM / MPhil or an equivalent recognised by relevant healthcare authority in UAE
