Job summary

Halian is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, develop and maintain enterprise-grade Java/Spring Boot microservices for banking platforms. You will build secure RESTful APIs, leverage OpenAPI, and deploy on Azure with AKS, App Services and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Spring Boot microservices.
• Proven experience delivering enterprise banking/fintech solutions.
• Strong API design and security capabilities (OAuth2, OIDC, JWT).
• Experience with cloud services on Azure and container platforms.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of OpenShift/Kubernetes/docker and CI/CD processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

Key Responsibilities *

Main duties and day-to-day tasks expected from the resourceDesign, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend services, APIs, and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.

• Build secure, scalable, resilient, and high-performance banking applications supporting digital channels, mobile banking, internet banking, corporate banking, and integration platforms.
• Develop RESTful APIs and event-driven services while adhering to enterprise API standards and governance frameworks.
• Deploy and support applications on Microsoft Azure using cloud-native services and container platforms.
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, security teams, and product squads to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Implement OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API security, encryption, and secure coding standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, and support release management activities.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, design reviews, code reviews, and CI/CD pipeline implementation

Required Skills *

Primary technical and functional skills

• Strong experience in Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and Microservices Architecture.
• Hands-on experience in designing and developing REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, and API lifecycle management.
• Strong knowledge of API security including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, mTLS, and certificate management.
• Experience with Azure services including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure App Services, Azure Key Vault, Azure Storage, Application Insights, and Azure DevOps.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Strong understanding of design patterns, distributed systems, resilience patterns, and fault tolerance mechanisms.
• Knowledge of OWASP Top 10, and secure SDLC practices.

Required Experience / Knowledge Areas *

Specific domain or industry knowledge required

• 5+ years of backend development experience with at least 3 years building Spring Boot microservices.
• Proven experience delivering enterprise banking, fintech, payments, digital banking, or financial services solutions.
• Strong understanding of banking integration patterns, API Gateways (Kong, Layer7), and enterprise integration architecture.
• Experience working within regulated environments with strong security, audit, and compliance requirements.
• Experience building highly available and scalable systems supporting mission-critical customer journeys.
• Understanding of CI/CD, DevSecOps, cloud-native development, and containerized deployments.
• Experience with Kafka, IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ or other messaging technologies.
• Knowledge of OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, Istio Service Mesh, and container orchestration platforms.

Good-to-Have Skills

Additional skills that are an advantage but not mandatory

• Experience with API Management platforms such as Kong, Azure API Management.
• Knowledge of observability tools including Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus and App Insights.
• Experience with Corporate Banking, Trade Finance, Payments, Treasury, Lending, Customer Onboarding, or Digital Banking domains.
• Exposure to AI, cloud migration, and modernization programs.
