Role ContextThe Social Studies Teacher will help students develop historical awareness, cultural understanding, analytical thinking, and informed perspectives on society while contributing to the wider academic goals of Yas American Academy. Beyond lesson delivery, the teacher takes responsibility for student progress, assessment evidence, intervention planning, behaviour expectations, and communication with families. Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver stimulating Social Studies lessons that enable students to achieve strong academic outcomes.
• Translate curriculum objectives into structured learning experiences appropriate for different abilities within the classroom.
• Work collaboratively with teaching colleagues to develop lesson plans, resources, assessments, and curriculum activities.
• Create an organized, engaging classroom environment supported by relevant learning materials and educational displays.
• Use enthusiastic and imaginative teaching approaches to motivate students and encourage active participation.
• Differentiate instruction to respond effectively to varying levels of readiness, attainment, and learning need.
• Observe and assess student learning in accordance with established school assessment procedures.
• Take direct responsibility for monitoring and supporting the academic progress of assigned students.
• Record student development using Target Tracker and maintain accurate assessment information.
• Analyze assessment data to guide future lesson planning, classroom provision, targeted support, and intervention.
• Reflect regularly on teaching effectiveness, student progress, curriculum delivery, and the classroom learning environment.
• Adapt planning and instructional strategies when assessment evidence indicates that students need additional challenge or support.
• Embed Yas American Academy Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout classroom practice.
• Apply the school 's behaviour policy consistently while creating an environment where students feel respected and ready to learn.
• Set high expectations for behaviour, independence, participation, and personal responsibility.
• Build constructive relationships with students while exercising appropriate classroom authority when necessary.
• Communicate student achievement, progress, and well-being clearly to parents and carers.
• Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings concerning individual student development.
• Use school systems and processes, including CPOMS where appropriate, to support communication and student well-being.
• Liaise with curriculum support staff and specialist professionals such as educational psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists when required.
• Participate in curriculum action groups and contribute to planning, assessment development, resources, and subject-related events.
• Support school trips, activities, celebrations, and events, including occasional evening or weekend commitments.
• Lead a weekly extracurricular activity during each term.
• Contribute positively to the broader academic life, culture, and ethos of the school.
• Maintain professional conduct and place student safeguarding, welfare, and development at the center of teaching practice.

Ideal ProfileCandidates should hold a minimum Bachelor 's degree in the relevant subject together with a B.Ed. or PGCE Education qualification. Applicants should have previous experience teaching to AP, IB, or A-Levels standard. Experience within an international school environment will be an advantage.
