Qualifications

• Previous experience as a tailor or similar role is desirable.
• Good knowledge of garment construction, sewing techniques, alterations, repairs, and finishing methods.
• Ability to take accurate measurements and interpret alteration instructions or garment specifications.
• Confident using sewing machines, hand-sewing tools, irons, and related equipment safely and effectively.
• Good understanding of different fabrics and the care required when working with delicate or specialised materials.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce a neat, consistent, and professional finish.
• Good organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
• Good communication skills and a courteous, professional approach when working with colleagues.
• Ability to handle garments and personal items with care, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
• Physically able to sit or stand for extended periods and carry out repetitive sewing and garment-handling tasks.
• Flexible to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, in line with business requirements.

Responsibilities

• Alter, repair, and finish garments in accordance with instructions and specifications.
• Take accurate body and garment measurements and confirm alteration requirements.
• Fit garments and make adjustments for a comfortable fit and professional finish.
• Carry out sewing tasks by hand or machine, including hemming and repairing seams.
• Assess fabrics to determine alteration methods and suitable repairs.
• Work with a range of fabrics and construction techniques while protecting delicate materials.
• Complete work accurately within agreed timeframes and prioritize requests by operational needs.
• Check final garments for fit, finish, cleanliness and quality before return.
• Handle garments with discretion and maintain privacy.
• Keep work areas and equipment clean, tidy, and ready for use.
• Maintain sewing machines and other equipment safely and report faults promptly.
• Monitor supplies and report replenishment needs.
