Job summary
Sargent & Lundy seeks a senior transmission planning engineer in the UAE to lead interconnection studies and system analyses within the Consulting Group. You will perform power-flow, contingency, stability, and EMT studies for various clients including project developers and utilities.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience in power system modeling, with expertise in PSS/E/PSLF/TARA, PSCAD, Python scripting, and familiarity with regional standards (DEWA/Transco).
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree
- A minimum of 8 years relevant engineering experience with an emphasis in power system modeling and analysis, including load flow analysis and time domain analysis
- Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits
- Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping
- Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA
- Experience in Python scripting
- Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
- Experience in harmonic analysis using DigSilent
- Experience with regional utility standards e.g DEWA, Transco, Saudi Arabia National Grid
Responsibilities

Job description
This senior-level position is within Sargent & Lundy's Consulting Group and will be responsible for the following:
- Supporting generator interconnection applications and associated system impact studies
- Transmission system planning and analysis, including studies in load flow, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transients (EMT), to support a variety of clients such as project developers, and electric utilities
- Performing transmission system technical analysis, which includes power flow studies and contingency analysis, stability analysis, voltage analysis, and EMT studies related to the impact of conventional energy generation, inverter-based generation, and high voltage direct-current (HVDC) on the transmission system
This position will be located in the UAE - local candidates are preferred.
Essential skills and experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and sufficient industry experience is considered in lieu of an advanced degree
- A minimum of 8 years relevant engineering experience with an emphasis in power system modeling and analysis, including load flow analysis and time domain analysis
- Experience in load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal and voltage constraints and to identify transfer capability limits
- Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping

Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering is preferred
- Experience in modeling and application studies for HVDC converters and HVDC transmission lines
- Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN
- Experience in the interconnection process for large generators (>200MW)
- Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
- Experience in Java Script, or other scripting languages
