Job summary

KBR Corporate Inhouse Engineering in Abu Dhabi seeks a Senior Telecommunication Engineer to lead telecom design for FEED and detailed engineering in oil and gas projects. You will define design bases, standards, and deliverables while coordinating with electrical and other discipline teams to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective telecom solutions.

• 12 years of experience, including 8+ years in telecommunication design within Oil & Gas.
• ADNOC EPC/PMC experience is an added advantage.
• Proven track record delivering telecom design and integration on FEED/detailed engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing design activities for Telecommunication systems (Optical Fiber, LAN, CCTV, PAGA, PIDS, etc.).
• Coordinate site visits, validation, and reports; review vendor coverage studies.
• Prepare FEED and detailed design deliverables including specs, datasheets, sizing, diagrams and scope documents.
• Lead bid evaluations, vendor reviews, and ensure QA/QC across telecom installations.
• Collaborate with electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical teams for integration.

Job Purpose

• Provide technical leadership for telecommunication systems within FEED and Detail Engineering projects in the Oil & Gas sector.
• Define telecommunication design basis standards and deliverables to ensure safe reliable and cost-effective solutions.
• Oversee integration with process electrical and multi-discipline interfaces; ensure compliance with applicable codes standards and regulatory requirements.
• Mentor engineers drive quality and schedule adherence and ensure robust telecommunication deliverables across the project phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Overseeing design activities for Telecommunication systems including Optical Fiber communication systems LAN & structured cabling system Telephone System TETRA System Microwave Radio PAGA ACS CCTV PIDS Entertainment system to suit client requirements.
• Participate in site visit for data collection validation and prepare site visit report.
• Coordinate and participate in third party Vendor CCTV PAGA and Radio cover study workshop. Review and approve the Vendor coverage study report.
• Preparation of FEED and detail design deliverables such as design basis specifications datasheets sizing calculations block diagrams location layouts cable routing layouts interconnection drawings scope of works RFQs & Material Requests.
• Conduct bid evaluation/vendor document review and approval.
• Conduct site surveys equipment selection and vendor management to facilitate seamless installation and commissioning of telecom networks.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams (electrical instrumentation mechanical) for smooth integration of telecom solutions.
• Ensure compliance with international and regional standards like IEC IEEE ITU and oil and gas specific telecom codes.
• Provide technical leadership by troubleshooting risk assessment and mentoring junior telecom engineers and project teams.
• Monitor quality assurance and control of telecom installations ensuring operational reliability and safety.
• Ensure QA/QC practices drawing standards datasheets calibration plans and requisition packages.
• Support field construction commissioning start-up activities and as-built documentation.
• Stay current with advances in telecommunication technology and recommend value-added solutions.

Experience

• Experience:12 years of experience including at least 8 years of telecommunication design engineering work experience within the oil and gas sector particularly onshore and offshore projects in the Middle East.
• ADNOC EPC/PMC experience is an added advantage.
• Demonstrated track record delivering telecommunication design and integration on FEED/detailed engineering projects.

Qualifications

• Education:Bachelors degree in Telecommunication or Electronics & Communication Engineering
• Professional membership or relevant certifications (e.g. PE/Chartered Engineer) are a plus.

Technical Skills

• Strong background knowledge in the design of Telecommunication systems and Security Systems.
• Hazardous Areas: equipment selection & certification (IECEx/ATEX) installation practices for different Zones.
• Standards Familiarity: IEC ITU ISO IEEE NFPA TIA EN; operator standards (e.g. ADNOC/others as applicable).
• Telecom/OT Systems: SDH/PDH DWDM microwave fiber (OSP/ISP) VSAT; TETRA/DMR/LTEP/5G private; PAGA; CCTV (analytics VMS) ACS/PIDS; IP telephony/UC; time synchronization.
• Familiarity with FEED deliverables MOC/Change control and document controls.
• Ability to perform coverage studies for CCTV PAGA and Radio based on client requirements.
• Excellent analytical troubleshooting and decision-making abilities.
