Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Sustainability Engineer in Abu Dhabi to ensure certification compliance across construction projects. You will lead audits, reviews, and documentation for LEED, Estidama, and other green ratings, coordinating with MEP and Civil teams to drive KPI performance.

The role demands deep technical expertise, stakeholder collaboration, and leadership in promoting sustainable practices on site and in certification processes.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of sustainability and construction industry experience.
• B.Eng/B.Tech degree in a relevant field is required.
• Mandatory ESTIDAMA PQP (PBRS & PCRS) and LEED AP credentials.
• WELL AP desirable (in process).
• Experience delivering Estidama and LEED certification on Dubai/Abu Dhabi projects.

Responsibilities

• Communicate sustainability requirements and progress to project teams.
• Review design drawings, materials specs, and contractual sustainability documents.
• Prepare documentation to maintain sustainability KPIs.
• Review subcontractor pre qualifications and credentials.
• Review sustainability plans, reporting, and energy simulations.
• Coordinate with contractors including MEP and Civil engineers.
• Review technical submittals and shop drawings for sustainability compliance.
• Liaise with contractor's Sustainability Manager for day-to-day issues.
• Conduct site sustainability meetings and prepare MOM.
• Review monthly sustainability progress reports.
• Report sustainability performance to clients.
• Review alternate sustainability proposals.
• Coordinate with authorities on green rating submissions.
• Schedule and conduct audits and prepare audit reports.
• Site visits and sustainability inspections with contractors.
• Prepare monthly reports with all disciplines.
• Adhere to QA/QC system and quality manual.
• Provide oversight to Contractor's CEMP and report non-compliance.
• Ensure testing of materials per project standards.
• Raise NCNs and SINs with RE.

Overview

The Sustainability Engineer role is dedicated to ensuring compliance with sustainability certification programs and client requirements across construction projects. It involves reviewing technical documentation, coordinating with contractors, conducting audits, and driving sustainability performance while supporting certification processes such as LEED, Estidama, and other green rating systems. The position requires deep technical expertise, strong stakeholder collaboration, and leadership in promoting sustainable practices.

Your role

• Effectively communicate the sustainability certification program and Client's sustainability requirements and progress to project teams.
• Review necessary design drawings, materials requirement, specifications, and contractual sustainability documents of the project.
• Prepare the necessary documentation required to maintain the sustainability KPIs.
• Review and comment on subcontractor's pre qualifications and specialist credentials.
• Review Sustainability plans, procedures, reporting and monitoring trackers, energy simulations & relevant reports submitted by contractor to confirm Contractor's understanding to sustainability specifications and KPIs.
• Coordinate with & support contractors including MEP/Civil engineers.
• Review technical material submittals, shop drawings, calculations and reports submitted by the Contractor ensuring compliance to Sustainability requirements.
• Liaise with the contractor's Sustainability Manager/Engineer for day-to-day sustainability issues.
• Conduct and co-ordinate dedicated site sustainability meetings in conjunction with RE relevant team members and prepare MOM.
• Review Contractor's Monthly sustainability progress reports.
• Report sustainability and environmental performance to clients.
• Review and comment on alternate sustainability proposals submitted by contractors.
• Liaise with and review green rating system submission with authorities and prepare all required documentation.
• Schedule and conduct timely Audits mandated by the regulatory bodies and prepare audit reports for authority's review and approval.
• Conduct regular Site visit and Sustainability inspection and audit on contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Preparation of Monthly reports in coordination with all disciplines.
• Adhere to QA/QC system implemented on site and ensure the compliance with Quality manual.
• Provide oversight to the Contractor's CEMP and together with undertaking site audits, reporting non-compliance incidents (NCI).
• Ensure the contractor performing sustainability inspections, sampling, and testing of materials in accordance with the specified standards, guideline and requirements as required by the project.
• Raise non-conformance notices (NCNs)/reports; site inspection notices (SINs) identify deficiencies in conjunction with the RE.
• Review the corrective / preventative actions proposed by the contractor, respond/follow ups and close out procedure.
• Inspect the on-site and off-site materials to be used in the project, organize/witness field and laboratory Tests, conducted by third parties on construction materials to ascertain their compliance with the specification (as required).
• Develop technical and non-technical reports as per scopes of assigned projects and ensure high quality of deliverables.
• Support the company in potential business growth by promoting Atkins services and networking with new potential clients and contacts.
• Coaching of junior staff and support sustainability training and awareness across all disciplines.
• Conduct product and technology research related to sustainability.

About you

• To be successful in this dynamic opportunity, we envision that your career journey to date will include 20+ years' experience partnered with a B.Eng/B.Tech Degree in relevant field.
• ESTIDAMA PQP (PBRS & PCRS) & LEED AP are mandatory requirements - WELL AP (either obtained or in process) would also be highly desirable.
• Potential candidates will have the below job specific competencies.
• PQP & LEED AP with previous proven experience delivering Construction stage of projects within Dubai & Abu Dhabi.
• Full & in-depth knowledge of LEED, Estidama, Al Sa'fatcertification process and required documentation. Have worked on projects and been responsible for obtaining Estidama and LEED Certification at multiple levels.
• Have specific knowledge of other green building certification programs such as MOSTADAM, GSAS, CEEQUAL etc.
• Have awareness of WELL Certification in terms of requirements, processes and submission would be a distinct advantage.
• Excellent skills in narrative writing for supporting highly rated sustainability projects.
• Possess the ability to address challenges and devise effective solutions in a timely manner.
