Job summary

AECOM in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Inspector to lead site inspections and ensure compliance with drawings, welding, coatings, and NDT requirements. The role emphasizes coordination with engineers, QA/QC, and safety teams on large industrial projects.

With 7–10 years in steel fabrication and erection inspection, you will manage ITPs/NCRs, review materials, and support lifting and installation activities while maintaining thorough site records.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7–10 years of inspection experience on industrial, manufacturing, logistics or steel structure projects.
• Strong experience in structural steel fabrication and erection inspection.
• Experience in precast concrete installation and reinforced foundation works.

Responsibilities

• Inspect steel erection, alignment, and fit‑up against drawings and tolerances.
• Verify welding processes, welder qualifications, WPS/PQR compliance, and coordinate NDT with third parties.
• Check high‑strength bolting: grades, handling, installation methods, torque verification, and calibration certificates.
• Review surface preparation and protective coatings, SSPC/ISO cleanliness, DFT, curing, and holiday testing where applicable.
• Confirm material compliance: mill certificates, heat numbers, traceability, and correct section sizes/grades.
• Monitor dimensional tolerances and geometry: plumb, level, camber, sweep, gaps; verify setting‑out and anchor bolts.
• Review ITPs, method statements, drawings, and data; raise queries for discrepancies.
• Conduct surveillance and hold‑point inspections; issue IRs, MIRs, NCRs and corrective actions.
• Maintain daily site diaries, checklists, photos, redlines, and weekly progress summaries.
• Coordinate with Resident Engineer, Structural Engineer, QA/QC, HSE and Contractor teams to resolve issues.
• Support lifting and installation activities: verify rigging plans and safe sequencing.
• Verify fireproofing interfaces to steel and adhesion to coatings where applicable.
• Document site changes, RFIs, and as‑built updates; support punch lists and handover.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure method statements and PTWs are followed.
