Job summary

YO IT Consulting, based in Dubai, UAE, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to perform production-grade AI training and evaluation tasks. You will work across backend, full-stack, and infrastructure, reviewing code, debugging issues, and improving systems for security, performance, and reliability.

You will read unfamiliar code, assess dependencies, and document tradeoffs, architecture decisions, and operational risks while collaborating with distributed teams within a 10–12 hour weekly window.

Responsibilities

• Complete advanced software engineering tasks across backend, full-stack, systems, and infrastructure environments.
• Read and understand unfamiliar codebases, technical specifications, dependencies, and application workflows.
• Review code for correctness, readability, maintainability, security, performance, and production suitability.
• Debug application failures, integration issues, database errors, deployment problems, and unexpected runtime behavior.
• Refactor existing implementations to improve structure, modularity, testability, and developer experience.
• Design or evaluate APIs, databases, services, integrations, and distributed application components.
• Analyze architecture decisions and identify their operational and technical consequences.
• Compare alternative solutions and explain tradeoffs involving scalability, reliability, cost, security, and complexity.
• Assess whether implementations meet stated functional and non-functional requirements.
• Review unit tests, integration tests, end-to-end tests, and quality assurance strategies.
• Examine database schemas, queries, indexes, transactions, and data access patterns.
• Evaluate CI-CD pipelines, containers, monitoring, logging, and production operations.
• Identify technical debt, hidden dependencies, edge cases, and failure modes.
• Produce clear documentation covering assumptions, risks, limitations, and recommended improvements.
• Collaborate with the customer ''s team on code reviews, architecture discussions, and problem-solving exercises.
• Adapt quickly to new languages, frameworks, libraries, and development environments.
• Contribute realistic engineering examples that strengthen AI coding and reasoning capabilities.
• Complete assigned work within the agreed 10-12 hours of weekly availability.

Role Context

The Senior Software Engineer will complete realistic development and technical evaluation assignments used to train advanced AI systems. Work may involve backend services, full-stack applications, infrastructure, databases, APIs, cloud platforms, testing strategies, integrations, deployment pipelines, and production troubleshooting. Each assignment requires more than generating working code. The engineer must evaluate whether a solution is secure, maintainable, scalable, reliable, efficient, and appropriate for the stated requirements. Written explanations should show why an approach works, which tradeoffs were considered, and how the implementation could be improved.

Ideal Profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in at least one backend or full-stack engineering environment.
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C , Go, Ruby, PHP, or a comparable language.
• Proven experience developing, maintaining, debugging, or reviewing production applications.
• Strong understanding of APIs, databases, services, integrations, and application architecture.
• Practical knowledge of debugging, testing, version control, and code quality practices.
• Ability to identify technical tradeoffs and explain decisions objectively.
• Comfortable reading unfamiliar code and determining how it behaves.
• Experience assessing scalability, performance, security, reliability, and maintainability.
• Strong written English for documenting technical analysis and engineering recommendations.
• Ability to work independently within a remote and deadline-focused environment.
• Experience collaborating with distributed engineering teams.
• Careful attention to implementation details, edge cases, and operational risks.
• Previous AI training or model evaluation experience is helpful but not required.

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with CI-CD pipelines, DevOps practices, containers, monitoring, and production support.
• Experience using Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar tools.
• Frontend development experience with React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native.
• Open-source contributions, public GitHub repositories, or published technical writing.
• Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing pull requests, or guiding architecture decisions.
• Knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, event-driven design, or cloud-native applications.
