Job summary

AECOM in Abu Dhabi seeks an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead cost management, estimating and project controls across major construction and engineering projects. You will mentor junior staff and drive accurate forecasting, budget control and procurement strategies aligned with UAE regulations.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers and stakeholders to ensure alignment on scope, schedule and financial objectives while developing robust cost databases and benchmarking

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • 12-15 years of progressive experience in quantity surveying, cost estimation, and project controls.
  • Advanced proficiency with estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, procurement processes, and construction standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to present findings.
  • Leadership experience mentoring junior staff and UAE regulations knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of estimating systems, processes, and methodologies to ensure accuracy and consistency across all projects.
  • Prepare detailed bids, conceptual estimates, and cost analyses for complex projects.
  • Analyze subcontractor bids and proposals with precision, providing transparent recommendations that optimize value.
  • Manage project budgets and cost controls throughout the project lifecycle, monitoring expenditures and variances.
  • Conduct material take-offs, quantity calculations, and historical data compilation using advanced software tools.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases and benchmarking data to support future project estimating and planning.
  • Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors and estimating staff, fostering collaboration.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your extensive expertise in cost management, estimating, and project controls to drive financial excellence across our construction and engineering projects. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take on a leadership position, mentoring junior staff while ensuring accurate cost forecasting, budget management, and procurement strategies that align with organizational goals.

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive estimating systems, processes, and methodologies to ensure accuracy and consistency across all projects
  • Prepare detailed bid packages, conceptual estimates, and cost analyses for complex projects, demonstrating advanced analytical capabilities and innovative problem-solving approaches
  • Analyze subcontractor bids and proposals with precision, providing transparent recommendations that optimize value and mitigate financial risk
  • Manage project budgets and cost controls throughout the project lifecycle, monitoring expenditures and identifying variances with decisive corrective actions
  • Conduct material take-offs, quantity calculations, and historical data compilation using advanced software tools and modeling techniques
  • Develop and maintain cost databases and benchmarking data to support future project estimating and strategic planning
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project scope, schedule, and financial objectives
  • Prepare comprehensive cost reports and documentation that communicate complex financial information in a clear, organized manner
  • Administer contracts and procurement processes, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and UAE regulations
  • Mentor and support junior quantity surveyors and estimating staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Assess project risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect project profitability and organizational interests
  • Stay current with industry standards, construction regulations, and best practices relevant to the UAE market
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (B.E./B.Tech), Quantity Surveying (B.Sc. or B.Tech), or equivalent professional qualification
  • Minimum 12-15 years of progressive experience in quantity surveying, cost estimation, and project controls within construction or engineering sectors
  • Advanced proficiency with estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and modeling
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost management, budgeting, and financial forecasting
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, procurement processes, and construction standards
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings to diverse stakeholders
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members
  • Familiarity with UAE construction regulations, standards, and local market practices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certification in Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering (e.g., RICS, AIQS, or equivalent)
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and integrated project delivery methodologies
  • Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure or commercial projects in the Middle East region
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and value engineering techniques
  • Experience with project management information systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills demonstrated through successful stakeholder management
