Job description
Functional Role
  • Directly responsible for Operations and production activities to obtain sustained production of all products required to meet the sales requirements, through the optimal utilization of capital, manpower and material resources.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and take all reasonable measures to maintain and improve health and safety in the production department. Ensure that all work is carried out according to the safety regulations.
  • Ensure that production plants and equipment are used in the prescribed manner to maintain a safe working environment
  • Review and approve production plans to meet sales requirements and in conjunction with the Procurement Manager ensure the timely availability of raw materials and components to meet the production & sales plan
  • Review and approve systems for monitoring all significant resources used for output. Investigate and correct irregularities and inefficiencies.
  • Ensure through managing the Equipment Maintenance Department, that all instrumentation, machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment is in working order and being used safely at all times and that malfunctions are rectified. Ensure that maintenance services operate efficiently and within statutory or contractual requirements.
  • Oversee plant and production department budgets. Ensure adherence to the plant and production department budgets. Monitor and account for deviations and apply for revisions where necessary.
  • Develop production capacity, human resources and technology.
  • Leading the development and advancement of the Production Department personnel.
  • Anticipate and plan for the timeouts, acquisition of additional capacity to meet projected sales demands.
  • Oversee the performance of lines and team leaders under his control and take remedial or disciplinary action where necessary and in accordance with company procedure and policy.
  • Key role in long term operations and production projects
  • Investigate on the suitability of new equipment and methods. Advise on the engineering implications of capital projects and control the expenditure within the projected amount. Ensure that all design work for new plant and equipment meets satisfactory standards.
  • Keep up to date with technological advances within the industry and make recommendations for improvement to the CEO.
  • Chair Operations and Production meetings.
  • Ensure that all factory effluents are controlled within statutory limits.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts throughout all operations activities.
  • Perform other tasks & duties as allocated by CEO.
  • Oversee production to meet sales requirements in conjunction with the Procurement & Contracts department to ensure the timely availability of raw materials and components to meet the production & sales plan
  • To lead and manage planning projects effectively, and to ensure that they are delivered on time, on budget and to agreed quality standards
  • To continuously strategize to improve production, planning and stock control processes
Preferred Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technology or Diploma in Explosives / Chemical / Mechanical Technology.
  • Certifications or trainings on various Health, Safety and Environment subject matters.
  • Project Management knowledge and/or training.
Preferred Experience
  • 15-20 years of production or manufacturing industry experience.
  • Explosives industry experience in production.
  • Extensive knowledge of explosive production and assembling ammunition.
  • Experience in handling, storage and packaging of explosives and ammunitions.
  • Ability and experience in managing and supervising teams in a dangerous and stressful environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of hazardous area classification concepts.
  • Deep understanding of and knowledge of risks involved when different explosives are subjected to the various processes
  • Must be able to deal with work-related deadlines, accountabilities and responsibilities
  • Must be able to work under frequent job pressure generated by short and inflexible deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently and under time constraints
