JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for the provision of safe, effective, evidence-based and comprehensive Occupational Therapy services to a designated areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads team of a designated specialty area of Occupational Therapy to provide an efficient and effective high-quality service.
  • Assists Occupational Therapy Supervisor in the implementation of service line strategic planning (quality/patient safety, accessibility/marketing, risk management, infection control) for effective and efficient business and clinical practice and patient satisfaction for the designated area.
  • Provides support in the planning and developing policies that guide the service implementation process.
  • Maintains and undertakes full comprehensive & accurate assessment of patients with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies and options to formulate a specialized program of care. Evaluates patient’s progress, reassess and alter treatment programs if required.
  • Ensures self and junior staff members on their designated unit/s are aware and aligned with vision, mission, values, national licensing, organizational & departmental policies, clinical guidelines and mandatory competencies.
  • Determines and is responsible for the safe and competent use of all therapy and independence equipment. Ensure that more junior occupational therapy staff attain competency prior to use.
  • Assists in training, supervising and managing the performance of junior occupational therapy staff. This includes use of formal appraisal documentation in line with those agreed on by Occupational Therapy department.
  • Conducts daily or periodic checks and calibration of equipment. Recognize report and advice on discrepancies in performance and initiate remedial action in the light of this information.
  • Maintains up to date clinical and professional knowledge in order to provide a well-developed level of informed professional knowledge, and according to organizational requirements (e.g. minimum of CPD / CME hours per year required for re- licensing).
  • Delivers and participates in service line training and education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses in their designated units. This may be required periodically for purpose of accreditations and licensing.
  • Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies for assigned clinic or work unit, rotation of stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.
  • Maintains daily management of workload allocation within the specialist area, taking into account the changing/competing demands and making decisions about prioritization of caseloads.
  • Ensures performance and development of Junior staff in the designated unit/s.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience :-

Required
  • NLT 4 years post graduate experience as an Occupational Therapist in relevant experience with patients with same diagnosis seen in acute care hospital or Rehab Facilities. 1 year demonstrated leadership

Educational Qualification: Required
  • BSc in Occupational Therapy OR
  • Graduate from an accredited Diploma course in Occupational Therapy (NLT 3 years syllabus) OR
  • Membership in a recognized international agency
  • And Current National License

  • Masters in a relevant clinical-related field. (Will reduce 1 year from the required years of experience.
