Job summary

American Hospital Dubai seeks a licensed NM/PET-CT technologist to perform diagnostic and therapeutic NM and PET/CT procedures, ensure safety, quality, and patient comfort. You will prepare, administer, and document radiopharmaceutical activities per regulations and coordinate with physicians.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of NM/PET/CT experience, DHA license, home country registration, and strong English communication.

Job description

Performs licensed independent practitioners in diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (NM and PET/CT) procedures, including the preparation, administration, and documentation of medications in adherence to state and federal regulations. Participates in quality improvement processes and continually assess their professional performance. Oversees the daily operations of NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT scanners, prepares patient schedules, equipment maintenance, and quality assessment. Analyses and synthesizes NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT information, Communicates findings to physicians, coordinates work schedules, ensures patient safety and comfort, addresses patient care problems, and provides education on NM and PET/CT procedures. Performs venepuncture, intravenous access, administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications, evaluates images for technical quality, responds to emergencies, and engages in customer service training.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of diagnostic and therapeutic NM and PET/CT procedures.
  • Prepares, administers, and documents activities related to medications per state and federal regulations or lawful institutional policy.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes and continually assesses their professional performance.
  • Oversees daily operations of the NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT scanners, patient schedules, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and Quality Assessment (QA).
  • Maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
  • Uses cognitive NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.
  • Operates PET/CT and SPECT/CT scanners.
  • Uses independent judgment during the NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT exams to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Analyses and synthesizes NM SPECT/CT and PET/CT information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
  • Coordinates work schedule with the Technical Director and/or scheduling desk to ensure workload coverage.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety, and mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the NM and PET/CT environment care.
  • Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals and referrals.
  • Performs all requested NM and PET/CT examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
  • Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
  • Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
  • Provides in-service education team on requirements of NM and PET/CT procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
  • Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers, and all others in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.
  • Selects appropriate imaging acquisition with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Posts processing digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring proper identification is evident.
  • Verifies informed consent for applicable procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
  • Prepares patients for procedures.
  • Applies principles of As-Low-As-Reasonably-Achievable (ALARA) to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Performs venepuncture as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Performs intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Identifies, prepares and/or administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Monitors and maintains quality control standards.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality and ensures proper identification is recorded.
  • Identifies and responds to emergencies.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Maintains archival storage of digital data as appropriate.
  • Participates in customer service training and continuing education.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Position Qualification:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nuclear Medicine Imaging
  • Active home country registration
  • Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an NM and PET/CT Technologist
  • Knowledge of specifications, standards, and tolerances for the operation of NM and SPECT/PET/CT equipment and facilities
  • Knowledge of NM and SPECT/PET/CT imaging procedures, principles, techniques, equipment and technology
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of radiation, magnetic protection, and safety
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards
  • Skills in Radiopharmaceutical preparations
  • Ability to develop, adapt, and/or modify NM and PET/CT protocols, procedures, and operating standards
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and NM and PET/CT techniques
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently
