Job summary

A2ML Recruiting is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection for healthcare and laboratory facilities in Dubai. You will work with architects, engineers and project teams to deliver compliant, sustainable building systems.

You will apply ASHRAE standards, UAE codes, and energy modeling, using Revit, HAP and related tools to deliver 3D models and detailed drawings for construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
• 12+ years of mechanical design experience focused on building systems.
• At least 10 years on healthcare projects and 5+ years in consulting engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and integration of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy systems.
• Create mechanical plans aligning with architectural and structural constraints.
• Perform load calculations and energy modeling for optimized performance.

Detailed Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, to join our Building Services team. This role involves ensuring that all HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical systems are designed to meet performance, sustainability, and safety standards. You will work closely with architects, structural engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality building designs that meet client needs and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and integration of mechanical systems in buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy management systems.
• Develop comprehensive mechanical plans and specifications that align with architectural designs and structural constraints.
• Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency of building systems.
• Utilize building information modeling (BIM) tools like Revit to create detailed 3D models of mechanical systems within the building structure.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other building components.
• Incorporate sustainable design principles into mechanical systems, aiming to achieve certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, or WELL.
• Ensure that all mechanical systems comply with local building codes, industry standards, and safety regulations.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with mechanical systems design, such as potential failures, safety hazards, or non-compliance with regulations.
• Lead design reviews and value engineering sessions to optimize the design for cost-effectiveness and constructability.
• Continuously improve design processes and tools to increase efficiency and quality of deliverables.

Required Qualifications and Years of Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 12+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on building systems.
• At least 10 years of experience working on healthcare projects
• Minimum of 5 years of experience within a consulting engineering environment
• Proven track record of leading the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems in
• Experience in design of firefighting, HVAC, Plumbing, Storm Water, Irrigation, Firefighting
• Treatment plants, Medical Gas system, LPG from concept to final design – specifically for
• healthcare and laboratories facilities
• Experience of working in the healthcare sector
• Fully aware of local regulations of Emirates of Abu Dhabi (e.g. ADDC, ADWEA, ADSCC, SEHA,
• Fluency in English is required.
• Professional certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE), PQP, LEED AP, CEng or Certified
• Project Manager (CPM), are highly desirable.

Required Skills:

• Design of HVAC System for Healthcare and Laboratories Facilities based on ASHRAE 170 62.1 and 90.1 standards
• Design of Firefighting System based on UAE Life & Safety codes & safety codes.
• Medical gas system design as per HTM 02-01
• Stormwater system design as per authorities requirement.
• Public Health System design based on TAQA & DOH/DHA guidelines.
• Sewage system design based on authorities requirements.
• RIBA Stage 1- Stage 3 awareness and able to deliver project from concept, schematic detailed
• design and tender package
• Awareness in Estidama green building guidelines
