Job description
Job description

Purpose:

Lead the company’s global intellectual‑property programme—trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, domains—by setting strategy, securing registrations, enforcing rights through takedown actions, oppositions, and litigation, and resolving disputes so that every core asset is protected and monetised.

Core responsibilities
  • Portfolio strategy: Design the annual filing and renewal roadmap by IP type, territory, class, and budget. Continuously audit the portfolio, identify gaps, and recommend defensive or defensive filings.
  • Clearance and prosecution: Oversee knockout and full searches, issue legal researches and opinions, and approve go/no‑go decisions. Direct outside agents on national and Madrid filings; manage examiner actions, renewals, and recordals. Target ≥ 90% registration success across all applications.
  • Lead copyrights registrations for different types of IP.
  • Enforcement and dispute resolution: Decide on oppositions, cancellations, DMCA notices, UDRP/URS complaints, customs seizures, platform takedowns, and litigation. Lead settlement negotiations and supervise external lawyers in multi‑jurisdictional cases related to IP. Ensure strategic use of registrars and platform abuse channels for efficient IP enforcement and domain recovery. Track and report cost‑benefit metrics for every action.
  • Commercial support: Draft and negotiate IP clauses in licensing, distribution, M&A, and technology agreements. Advise Marketing, Product, R&D, and HR on proper trademark and copyright usage.
  • Digital brand protection: Oversee monitoring and legal escalation of infringements across domains, app stores, ads, social media, and code repositories. Authorise rapid takedowns through registrars, Netcraft, Cloudflare, Google TCRP, etc.
  • Governance and reporting: Maintain an audit‑ready docket and a live risk dashboard. Deliver concise weekly updates to the Head of IP and quarterly IP heat‑maps to the Board.
  • Leadership: Mentor enforcement specialists and paralegals; build SOPs and playbooks. Drive continuous improvement to cut cycle times and external spend.
Required qualifications
  • LL.B./JD and active licence to practise law in at least one jurisdiction.
  • 7+ years of hands‑on IP work, including global brand protection, takedown and domain dispute enforcement, and contested matters.
  • Proven wins in oppositions, UDRP/URS, and at least one multi‑country litigation or high‑value settlement.
  • Strong contract‑drafting skills for licensing and tech transactions.
  • Fluent English; an additional Asian or EU language is an advantage.
  • Proficiency with leading IP‑management and brand‑monitoring platforms (Corsearch, MarkMonitor, Red Points) plus solid Excel/Sheets capability.
Key attributes
  • Decisive under time pressure; comfortable acting on incomplete data.
  • Clear, persuasive writer and negotiator.
  • Data‑driven mindset; tracks ROI on every initiative.
  • High integrity with strict confidentiality standards.
  • Natural mentor who elevates team performance.
Success metrics (first 12 months)
  • All critical filings, renewals, and recordals completed on or before deadline.
  • ≥ 90% acceptance rate for new applications.
  • 24‑hour first response to high‑risk infringements; average takedown ≤ 3 days.
  • ≥ USD 500 k in documented cost avoidance or recoveries.
  • At least two new SOPs implemented that reduce prosecution or enforcement cycle time by > 15%.
Compensation and growth
  • Senior‑tier base salary benchmarked to top‑quartile local market.
  • Annual performance bonus tied to KPI achievement.
  • Potential advancement to Deputy Head of IP or Regional IP Lead within 18–24 months.
