Job description

Job Purpose

The Senior Instrumentation Commissioning Technician leads field execution teams in instrument calibration, loop checking, control valve testing, and multi-system interface verification across DCS, ESD, and F&G systems. Operating within an Oil & Gas EPC project environment, this role ensures field instrumentation, shutdown logic, and final control elements are fully tested, functional, and ready for safe plant start-up.

Key Responsibilities & Core Scope
  • Instrument Calibration & Field Testing
    • Perform bench and field calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of pressure, temperature, level, flow, and analytical instruments using HART communicators and signal calibrators.
    • Inspect, test, and commission control valves, motorized valves (MOVs), emergency shutdown valves (ESDVs), positioners, and stroke test actuators.
  • Loop Checking & Commissioning Execution
    • Execute cold and hot loop checks from field transmitters, switches, and junction boxes to control room displays.
    • Troubleshoot signal integrity issues, ground loops, impulse lines, and fieldbus communication protocols during commissioning execution.
  • DCS / ESD / F&G Interface Testing
    • Perform interface verification and signal testing between field instrumentation and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems, and Fire & Gas (F&G) protection panels.
    • Assist in functional testing of Cause & Effect (C&E) matrices, trip logic, interlocks, and alarm safety limits.
  • Functional Testing & Start-Up Support
    • Conduct full functional testing of instrument packages and automated loops prior to dynamic testing.
    • Provide hands‑on instrument support during initial plant start-up, fluid introduction, and performance runs.
    • Execute field isolations under Permit-to-Work (PTW) protocols, clear instrument punch lists, and maintain complete test dossiers in the System Completion Database (SCDB).
Desired Candidate Profile
  • Education: Diploma, in Instrumentation, Control, or Electronics Engineering.
  • Experience:
    • 8+ years of hands‑on pre‑commissioning, loop checking, and commissioning experience strictly within the Oil & Gas sector (Onshore/Offshore EPC projects, Refineries, or Gas Plants).
    • Demonstrated experience with DCS (Emerson, Honeywell, Yokogawa, ABB), ESD/SIS logic, and F&G detector loops.
    • Proven track record in control valve diagnostic testing, field transmitter calibration, and active participation in initial plant start‑up.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • CompEx (Ex01–Ex04) certification for hazardous locations / explosion protection.
    • Functional Safety Technician (TÜV Rheinland or equivalent) or specialized vendor certification.
