Senior I&C Designer – Sharjah, UAE

Wood is recruiting for a Senior I&C Designer to join our team in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full-time office‑based role with occasional business trips.

Responsibilities
  • Develop working drawings that meet company and industry standards and codes, derived from equipment specifications and detailed drawings.
  • Create plans, layouts, calculations and bills of material for engineering deliverables.
  • Work on assignments involving a variety of design procedures and techniques.
  • Record observations, perform calculations and prepare reports on assignments.
  • Perform layouts, design and checking work from basic supplied data.
  • Design and produce detailed drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and fundamental engineering principles.
  • Establish project drafting standards and monitor their conformance.
  • Identify cost‑effective solutions to design problems.
  • Assist in the preparation of bid evaluations.
  • Design and construct models, prototypes, processes or equipment; compile and evaluate data, make recommendations and prepare reports.
  • Prepare estimates of time, quantities, materials and labour required for activities related to testing, installation, manufacture, design or construction.
  • Generate bills of materials from finished designs.
  • At more experienced levels, act as coordinator on small projects and prepare specifications for complex equipment and processes.
  • Ensure quality and technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings and material quantities, including reviewing others’ work at more senior levels.
  • Plan assigned work effectively and liaise with the project team and line manager to control man‑hours and achieve targets.
  • Carry out site visits/surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports.
Key Objectives
  • Contribute to engineering excellence by linking engineering design theory with practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans.
  • Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or general design information according to established standards.
  • Create designs and sketch detailed plans for commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures and plant/ manufactured products and systems.
  • Plan and execute technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Prepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams or blueprints using CAD/CADD software.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc. or equivalent degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in a similar position.
  • Specific experience in Oil and Gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region (preferred).
  • Pre‑FEED and FEED experience required.
  • Detailed Engineering experience preferred.
  • Enjoys practical application of complex theoretical principles.
  • Self‑motivated completes tasks to enhance team performance.
  • Prepared to take on new tasks and learn new technical subjects/skills.
  • Continuously develops own knowledge and abilities.
  • Strong problem‑solving, logical, and methodical.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills.
Internal Working Relationships
  • Interfaces regularly with discipline engineers, project engineers, and project management.
External Working Relationships
  • Unlikely to be required to interface with external parties.
Level Of Influence & Decision‑Making Authority
  • Works under the general supervision of a senior engineer/design supervisor.
  • Has some autonomy to exercise judgment in application.
  • Work is checked and verified by more senior personnel.
