Job summary

Al Ghurair Group is seeking a senior electrical engineer to lead the delivery of ETIHADWE substation automation and SCADA projects in the UAE. You will oversee installation, testing, commissioning, and energization across SCADA, RTU, HMI, and telecom systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

The role requires hands-on experience with ABB RTU560, Siemens SICAM A8000, and IEC 61850/104 networks, plus strong project leadership in UAE/GCC utility environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10–15 years in SCADA, RTU, SCMS, Telecom, and Substation Automation.
• 7+ years in UAE/GCC utility projects.
• Proven experience with ETIHADWE, FEWA, DEWA utility projects.
• Hands-on experience with ABB RTU560, Siemens SICAM A8000, ZIV RTU, IDS RTU, and SCADA systems.
• Extensive knowledge of IEC 61850, IEC104, IEC101, Modbus, DNP3, and SCADA networks.

Responsibilities

• Lead installation, testing, commissioning, and energization of SCADA, SCMS, RTU, Gateway, Telecom, HMI, and automation systems in substations.
• Perform RTU database engineering, I/O mapping, signal allocation, and point configuration.
• Configure and commission RTU systems including ABB RTU560, Siemens SICAM A8000, ZIV RTU, IDS RTU, and equivalent platforms.
• Configure, test, and troubleshoot IEC 61850 MMS, GOOSE, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 60870-5-101, Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, and TCP/IP protocols.
• Perform integration of Protection Relays, BCUs, Energy Meters, Disturbance Recorders, GPS Clocks, HMIs, and SCADA Gateways.
• Execute FAT, IFAT, SAT, Point-to-Point Testing, End-to-End Testing, Interoperability Testing, and Redundancy Testing.
• Commission SCMS systems for 132/11kV and 33/11kV substations including server, workstation, gateway, networking, and HMI systems.

STRATEGIC

• Support successful delivery of ETIHADWE substation automation and SCADA projects.
• Ensure compliance with ETIHADWE technical specifications, standards, and commissioning procedures.
• Contribute to utility digitalization initiatives through implementation of modern SCADA, RTU, IEC 61850, and telecom technologies.
• Participate in project planning, risk management, resource forecasting, and commissioning strategy development.

OPERATIONAL

• Lead installation, testing, commissioning, and energization activities for SCADA, SCMS, RTU, Gateway, Telecom, HMI, and Automation Systems in ETIHADWE substations.

• Configure and verify communication redundancy schemes including PRP, HSR, RSTP, Dual LAN, and redundant IEC104 communication channels.
• Perform SCADA integration with ETIHADWE Control Centres and Master SCADA Systems.
• Execute telecom system testing and commissioning including MPLS-TP, OTN, SDH, Ethernet Switches, Fiber Optic Networks, IP/MPLS Nodes, and 48V DC Systems.
• Conduct time synchronization testing using GPS Clock, NTP, SNTP, and IRIG-B systems.
• Review SCADA architecture drawings, telecom schematics, signal lists, network topology, FDS documents, and interface drawings.
• Lead troubleshooting activities related to communication failures, protocol issues, gateway integration, and network performance.
• Participate in substation energization, cutover, migration, and live network integration activities.
• Prepare commissioning procedures, testing reports, punch lists, as-built documentation, and handover dossiers.
• Coordinate with ETIHADWE engineers during witness testing, inspections, and final acceptance activities.
• Ensure compliance with ETIHADWE cybersecurity requirements and utility communication standards.
• Maintain commissioning records, engineering registers, inspection reports, and testing documentation.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

• Provide technical leadership to Commissioning Engineers, Telecom Engineers, SCADA Engineers, Technicians, and subcontractors.
• Allocate daily commissioning activities and monitor progress against project schedules.
• Mentor junior engineers on SCADA, RTU, IEC 61850, and telecom systems.
• Conduct toolbox talks, technical briefings, and safety awareness sessions.
• Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Support competency development and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

PRODUCT/PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

• Identify opportunities to improve SCADA system performance, network reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Recommend design optimization and value-engineering solutions for automation and communication systems.
• Support implementation of new technologies in RTU, SCMS, cybersecurity, and utility communication networks.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for recurring technical issues.
• Contribute to development of commissioning standards, testing procedures, and engineering best practices.
• Drive first-time-right commissioning philosophy and defect reduction initiatives.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 10–15 years of experience in SCADA, RTU, SCMS, Telecom, and Substation Automation Projects.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in utility substation projects within UAE/GCC.
• Proven experience in ETIHADWE, FEWA, DEWA utility projects.
• Hands-on experience with ABB RTU560, Siemens SICAM A8000, ZIV RTU, IDS RTU, and utility SCADA systems.
• Extensive experience with IEC 61850, IEC104, IEC101, Modbus, DNP3, and SCADA communication networks.
• Experience in FAT, IFAT, SAT, Point-to-Point Testing, End-to-End Testing, and Energization Activities.
• Experience in commissioning of 33/11kV, 132/11kV, and higher voltage substations.
