Overview
Champion a Culture of Safety and Compliance. We are seeking a highly certified and experienced Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to serve as a key leader on our projects. This role is critical for ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance across our operations in nuclear, manufacturing, and power generation facilities. You will be the on-site expert, responsible for developing programs, conducting oversight, and fostering an uncompromising safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and procedures in strict accordance with federal, provincial, and site-specific regulations (CNSC, CSA, OSHA, MOE).
- Conduct frequent field audits, inspections, and behavioral observations to identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with procedures, and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigation processes using root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies to determine underlying causes and implement effective preventive measures.
- Develop and deliver targeted EHS training to employees, contractors, and management on topics such as radiological safety, hazardous energy control (lockout / tagout), chemical safety, and fall protection.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for all EHS-related matters, providing expert guidance to project management and field personnel.
- Manage and oversee environmental aspects, including waste characterization, storage, and disposal, air permitting, and spill prevention plans.
- Prepare and submit detailed regulatory reports, permit applications, and internal performance metrics.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct EHS experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in the nuclear, power generation, or heavy manufacturing / industrial sectors.
- Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., NSCA, CNSC regulations, Ontario OHSA, EPA regulations, ISO 14001 / 45001).
- Proven experience in radiological safety programs and practices is a significant asset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage teams.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances.
