Senior Depot Engineer - Rail Facilities in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a Civil Engineering opportunity for an experienced rail depot and maintenance facilities professional who can lead depot planning, systems integration, operational readiness, and maintenance facility delivery for a large-scale rail infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, development, and integration of depot facilities and operational strategies across all project stages for an express railway system.
- Develop depot operational requirements, maintenance philosophies, facility layouts, workflow strategies, and performance criteria.
- Ensure full integration between depot systems, rolling stock, signalling systems, traction power, SCADA, OCC systems, communications systems, and operational interfaces.
- Coordinate integration between depot facilities, maintenance operations, stabling areas, workshops, control systems, and external operational interfaces where applicable.
- Support depot operational concepts, maintenance strategies, emergency response procedures, and operational readiness plans.
- Coordinate interface management between depot systems and rail, civil, architectural, MEP, systems, and operational stakeholders.
- Support systems engineering activities including requirements management, interface management, verification, validation, and traceability for depot systems.
- Review and support Design and Construct tender documentation covering depot technical specifications, maintenance facility requirements, interface requirements, and operational criteria.
- Develop and support testing and commissioning strategies including FAT, SAT, SIT, integrated testing, depot readiness testing, and trial operations.
- Coordinate with designers, contractors, operators, authorities, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to align depot delivery with operational and maintenance requirements.
- Identify technical, operational, maintenance, and integration risks related to depot facilities and systems.
- Recommend mitigation measures that improve depot functionality, operational resilience, maintenance efficiency, and project delivery quality.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, operational requirements, maintenance standards, safety standards, and international railway standards.
- Provide technical leadership and support to the Project Manager and wider project team throughout rail infrastructure delivery.
Ideal Profile
- Relevant engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, or an equivalent discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the AECO industry or a relevant technical field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in rail projects or rail operations in Dubai, the GCC, or international markets.
- Professional certification or membership with a recognized engineering or railway institution will be preferred.
- Extensive experience in depot planning, maintenance facilities, depot systems integration, and operational readiness for large-scale rail or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with express railway systems will be an advantage.
- Strong expertise in depot operations, rolling stock maintenance facilities, railway systems integration, maintenance planning, and operational interfaces.
- Strong understanding of depot integration with signalling, traction power, SCADA, OCC systems, rolling stock, communications, and workshop systems.
- Experience coordinating with external systems, operational interfaces, and airport-related interfaces will be highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage technical and operational scope for depot facilities and systems within mega rail or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles including requirements management, interface management, verification, and validation.
- Familiarity with international railway depot standards, maintenance best practices, and operational readiness requirements.
- Strong communication, leadership, coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in complex, fast-paced, multi-stakeholder project environments.
