Responsibilities

The Sr Accountant is responsible for managing all day-to-day Finance matters including accounting, reporting, treasury, audit, taxation and other finance day-to-day activities for the Company. The Sr Accountant assists the CFO in various Project Finance and Corporate Governance matters.

  • Mobilization Phase (prior to plant COD): assist in company formation, initial procurement, setting up processes, ERP system implementation and other departmental setup support as needed from time to time by CFO and PGM.
  • Post COD of plant: manage all day-to-day finance matters including processing of invoices and payments, obtaining approvals, and ensuring proper documentation and archiving.
  • Handle petty cash (national/foreign currency) and prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Manage inter-company debit notes (quarterly) and issue weekly cash position.
  • Identify cash usage requirements, place deposits accordingly, and assist in preparing closing schedules.
  • Make accruals and other journal entries as assigned; ensure strict compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Respect the monthly internal calendar/deadlines and assist in preparing other deliverables upon request.
  • Maintain bank activity files and correspondence; prepare VAT returns and support in annual audit.
Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental management procedures within assigned areas to protect employee safety and meet legislative requirements.
  • Maintain zero tolerance for safety breaches and ensure understanding of safety procedures by self and team.
  • Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections and promptly report findings; promote safe working methods.

Governance:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, directives, and project requirements.
  • Adhere to corporate policies, procedures, and internal controls; contribute to continuous improvement of policies and procedures.

Accounting and Reporting:

  • Conduct day-to-day accounting (sales, purchases, receipts, payments, petty cash) per Company policies and tax laws.
  • Perform month-end activities (payrolls, reconciliations, journal entries); document accounting records.
  • Monitor expenditures, analyze budget variances, and prepare timely financial reports as requested by management.
  • Ensure IFRS compliance for yearly financial statements and respond to accounting inquiries.

Auditing and Taxation:

  • Handle auditing by providing information and documentation as needed.
  • Prepare and submit VAT and other tax filings; manage VAT refund claims.

Budgeting:

  • Assist in the preparation of the yearly budget and medium-term plans; update forecasting models and prepare cashflow projections.

Operations & Budget:

  • Contribute to Budget Planning and support development of operational budgets.
  • Evaluate supporting contracts and monitor contractor performance.

  • Compliance with IFRS and Shareholders\' Accounting Policies.
  • Timely and accurate managerial reports and statements; implementation and continuous improvement of internal controls.

  • Decisions are made within clearly defined parameters under the guidance of the CFO and Plant General Manager.
  • Complete all other tasks pertaining to procurement and reporting; prepare and submit reports on a timely basis as required by management.
Key relationships

Daily communications with department heads and management team; include shareholders\' finance organization, external/internal auditors, IT service providers, banks, tax advisors/authorities, and accounting service providers.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge and skills:

  • Strong command of English (written and verbal).
  • Flexible: willing to work long hours, weekends, and be on call if required.
  • Arabic is an advantage.
  • Foundation knowledge in accounting; familiar with internal controls; process and systems oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and Excel skills; eager to learn; team player; able to work in a global, diverse environment.

Qualifications and Experience Minimum Diploma in economics, accounting, finance, business administration or CAT from ACCA UK. Minimum 8 years in finance, accounting or controlling in an audit firm or multinational company.
