Job summary

Sunmarke School in Dubai seeks a passionate and motivated Cover Supervisor to provide essential support across the school during teacher absences. You will create a positive learning environment and ensure students continue to learn when teachers are away.

This role requires strong organisation, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt to assigned subject areas while maintaining classroom routines in a secondary setting.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements towards self‑reliance appropriate to the age and development stage of the students.
• Basic knowledge of SEN and other learning barriers.
• Strong organisation and time management skills.
• Relevant experience supervising groups of children aged 11‑16.
• Previous experience in a school or comparable large organisation.
• Understanding of a secondary school environment.
• Ability to provide classroom cover – within agreed parameters – in the absence of the class teacher.
• Ability to consistently and effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies.
• Ability to use language and other communication skills that students can understand and relate to.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with students and empathise with their needs.
• Ability to demonstrate active listening skills.
• Ability to monitor the students' response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify/adapt activities agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential cover across the school during periods of absence of the designated teacher.
• Create and maintain a positive environment for effective learning through the systems and structures developed by the school.
• Subject specialisms will be determined with you as a preference.
• Build rapport with staff and students alike and support learning when teachers are away.
