Job summary

The Aquila School is seeking a dedicated Driver to transport students safely to and from campus. You will be responsible for maintaining a clean bus, ensuring student safety, and following all traffic laws and school procedures.

You will report to the Facility Manager and Transport & housekeeping supervisor, with hours from 5:30am to 5:00pm (Mon-Thu) and some Fridays 5:30am–2pm, plus occasional evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

  • Must have bus driving experience and valid driving credentials.
  • Demonstrates safety-first mindset and adherence to policies.
  • Experience with vehicle inspection and basic maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Transport children to and from school in mornings and afternoons.
  • Verify permissions for students riding with friends.
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound bus at all times.
  • Obey all traffic laws and school/region regulations.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of the bus.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of all students on board.
  • Discipline students when required to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist students getting on and off the bus as needed.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings and stay updated on procedures.
  • Carry up-to-date RTA approvals on all trips and applicable documents.
  • Other tasks as required by the school or regional office.

The Aquila School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and satisfactory Criminal Background Checks or equivalent covering the previous 10 years’ employment history.

Key duties for all Drivers include:
  • Transport children to and from school in the mornings and afternoons
  • Verify permissions for children who ride home with friends
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically-sound bus at all times
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
  • Ensure safety of all students
  • Discipline children when required to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Assist students with getting on and off the bus when required
  • Attend monthly safety meetings
  • Ensure that your RTA approvals are up to date and carry them along on all trips

In addition, all staff are required to carry out any tasks required by the school or the regional office to facilitate the smooth day to day running of the school

To be line managed by the Facility Manager and Transport & housekeeping supervisor

Hours of work- 8 hours from 5.30am-5.00pm (with appropriate break time) Monday to Thursday & 5.30am to 2pm on Fridays plus occasional evening and weekend work

Holidays- 30 days per school year
