Job summary

Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Robotics Engineer with GNC expertise to develop guidance, navigation, and control for UAVs and autonomous systems. You will prototype in MATLAB/Simulink, implement in C++/Python, and integrate with ROS2, Gazebo, PX4, and the UAV software stack.

You will transition prototypes to production-grade code, ensure software quality with Git, CI, and Docker, and collaborate across teams while documenting designs and test plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Robotics, or related field; PhD is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of path planning, navigation, and control for autonomous robots.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB for algorithms development.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink and code generation tools is a plus.
  • Experience with ROS2, Gazebo, PX4 and UAV software stacks.
  • Software development experience (Git, CI, Docker) and Agile/Jira experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review and develop GNC algorithms for UAVs, including path/trajectory planning.
  • Design and implement control and navigation for autonomous systems.
  • Prototype in MATLAB/Simulink and translate to production-ready C++/Python code.
  • Integrate GNC into the UAV software stack and ROS2 framework.
  • ROS/ROS2 development and integration; review and optimize code quality.
  • Document designs, test plans, and performance evaluations; present findings.

Job description

At the Autonomous Robotics Research Centre (ARRC) of TII, we are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Robotics engineer with experience in GNC. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of guidance, navigation, and control systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and autonomous systems.

Responsibilities

Review and develop advanced and robust GNC algorithms for UAVs, including:

  • Path and trajectory planning
  • Control and navigation design and implementation for UAVs
System Integration and Software Development
  • Prototyping of various algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Implement algorithms using industry-grade languages (C++, Python) following software engineering best practices (version control, unit testing, continuous integration).
  • Integrate GNC algorithms into the overall GNC framework and UAV software stack.
  • Transition prototype models (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink) into production-ready code suitable for embedded deployment.
  • ROS/ROS2 C++ development and integration
  • Write efficient and easy to read code and be ready to review the code from others
Collaboration and Documentation
  • Document GNC designs, test plans, and performance evaluations.
  • Present findings and recommendations to both technical and program stakeholders.
Required qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control or related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of path planning, navigation, and control principles for autonomous robotic systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB for algorithm development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink and automatic code generation tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ROS2, Gazebo, and PX4.
