Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced Risk Engineer as part of our Engineering team within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based full time at our Engineering Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Role Purpose

The Risk Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the project risk management framework throughout all project phases from engineering and procurement through to construction and commissioning. The role ensures that all potential risks are systematically identified, assessed, mitigated, and monitored to support project delivery within scope, schedule, and budget constraints.

Risk Management Framework
  • Develop and maintain the project risk management plan, procedures, and risk register in accordance with corporate and client standards.
  • Facilitate risk identification and assessment workshops with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure risk management is integrated into the project lifecycle, decision-making, and reporting processes.
Risk Identification & Assessment
  • Identify potential technical, commercial, HSE, schedule, and cost risks across all EPCM disciplines.
  • Quantify risks using qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., Monte Carlo simulations, sensitivity analysis).
  • Evaluate opportunities for risk reduction and project optimization.
Risk Mitigation & Monitoring
  • Work with discipline leads and project management to develop mitigation and contingency action plans.
  • Track implementation and effectiveness of mitigation measures.
  • Update the risk register regularly and ensure timely escalation of high‑impact risks.
Reporting & Communication
  • Prepare periodic risk reports, dashboards, and presentations for management and client review.
  • Support project control and cost/schedule teams with probabilistic risk analysis for forecasts and contingency planning.
  • Communicate risk exposure trends and recommend corrective actions.
Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure adherence to corporate risk management policies and client contractual requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external audits and risk reviews.
  • Support lessons‑learned documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Expected
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 – 10 years of relevant experience in risk management within major Oil & Gas EPC / EPCM projects.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost and schedule risk integration, and risk quantification techniques.
  • Proficiency in risk analysis software such as Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA / Pertmaster), @RISK, or Safran Risk.
  • Familiarity with project management systems and tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, facilitation, and communication skills.
