Job summary

HPHI seeks a Senior Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Evaluation Specialist to join our fully remote team. You will design evaluation frameworks, measure CER/WER, and benchmark OCR engines to ensure high accuracy across diverse documents.

You will collaborate with ML engineers and data scientists, develop ground-truth datasets, and establish quality thresholds, reporting findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's in CS/AI/related field.
• Extensive OCR evaluation and document processing experience.
• Strong OCR tech understanding and document image processing.
• Experience benchmarking OCR engines.
• Knowledge of CER, WER, edit distance, and statistics.
• Proficient in Python with image processing libraries.
• Experience with OpenCV and Pillow.
• Familiar with multilingual text recognition.
• Ability to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Design evaluation frameworks for OCR systems and document recognition.
• Assess OCR accuracy across formats, languages, fonts, and image conditions.
• Develop benchmark datasets with ground-truth text.
• Evaluate CER, WER, precision, recall, and other metrics.
• Compare OCR engines and models against benchmarks.
• Analyze recognition errors and preprocessing techniques.
• Validate text extraction for tables and forms.
• Collaborate with ML engineers and data scientists.
• Present evaluation findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Monitor performance after updates and releases.
• Maintain datasets and test documentation.
