Job summary

NMC Healthcare in Abu Dhabi is seeking a dedicated registered nurse to provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and families, and offer compassionate support across medical and surgical settings.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to assess needs, implement and monitor treatment plans, perform essential life support, administer medications, and ensure patient safety and quality care in accordance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about health conditions, and providing emotional support to patients and families.
• Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan with a multidisciplinary team.
• Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health.
• Understand assessment information, determine nursing diagnoses, and define expected outcomes of planned care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, recording vital signs and addressing abnormalities.
• Maintain and update technical and clinical nursing skills and promote patient health and safety.
• Perform essential life support, prepare patients for examination, administer medications and monitor for side effects.
• Assist in perioperative processes, ensure proper attire and safety protocols, and verify patient and surgical site identities.

• Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.

• Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.

• Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.

• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.

• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care.

• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.

• Record vital signs, recognize, address and elevate all abnormalities.

• Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.

• Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.

• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.

• Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation etc.

• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.

• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.

• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.

• Provide wound care management.

• Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.

• Facilitate all perioperative processes safely.

• Dons & adheres to operating room attire according to policy and procedure.

• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

• Prepares room and assembles instruments & equipment based on patient’s surgical needs.

• Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique.

• Correctly identifies patient and surgical site.

• Checks thoroughly the pre-operative checklist of patient: including completion of required diagnostic & laboratory procedures

• Monitors patients’ vital signs in the pre-operative area and post-operative recovery room

• Positions patient with the use of positional aids, maintaining circulatory, respiratory, neuromuscular homeostasis while maintaining privacy and providing maximum exposure to the operative procedure

• Demonstrates skill in performing the duties of scrub nurse and circulating nurse

• Provides safety to patient, to self & the whole surgical team by adopting safety protocols like ‘Time Out’

• Counts Surgical items audibly, and views items concurrently with another individual when counting, and recognizes that one of the individuals performing the count should be the RN circulator.

• Recognizes that, when possible, surgical counts during a procedure should be performed by the same two individuals.

• Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.

• Manage their own professional re-licensure.

• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider & ACLS card.

• Be willing to work across departments when necessary.

• Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)

• DESIRABLE: The post holder should have:

• Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.

• Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
