Med-Surge Nurses provide care for patients before and after surgical procedures; responsible for managing the care of patients experiencing general medical conditions or general surgical procedures, which require general assessments related to specific conditions, and general therapies and interventions.
Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Care Planning
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Formulate nursing plans and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient needs on an ongoing basis.
Medication Administration and Monitoring
- Prepare and administer medications (oral, subcutaneous, intravenous) and record prescribed medications.
- Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy and nursing standards.
- Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpreting and recording electronic displays.
- Initiate corrective action whenever patients display adverse symptomatology.
Patient Education and Communication
- Educate patients on surgical procedures and post-treatment home care needs.
- Initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians, teaching patients and families how to manage illness or injury.
- Ensure patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate, sensitive, and understandable information.
Clinical Procedures and Technical Support
- Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery cases.
- Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs, and prepare equipment.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and treatments.
- Respond promptly to life‑saving situations, following nursing standards and established protocols.
Documentation and Compliance
- Record patients’ medical information, vital signs, and all care details concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
- Deliver a high standard of evidence‑based care to patients at King’s College Hospital.
- Adhere to Dubai Health Authority (DHA) guidelines and hospital policies.
- Uphold high standards of care within the Medical and Surgical departments of King’s College Hospital.

Qualifications
Education & Qualification
- UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
Experience
- Has worked in hospital or similar setting for at least 2 years
Training, Knowledge & Skills
- Awareness and understanding of King’s College Hospital (KCH) policies and initiatives.
- Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty& Demonstrable ongoing and active Continues Personal Development (CPD)
- Supports quality patient care by showing empathy, maintaining patient dignity, and following proper protocols.
- Supports and guides junior team members, offering advice and assistance if required.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
