Job description

1. Responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
2. Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment. They work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.
3. Assessment and Evaluation
   1. Meet the essential mental and physical health needs of people of all ages and conditions, including those under end-of-life care.
   2. Perform systematic patient assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.
   3. Diagnosis
      1. Understand and analyze the assessment information and data
      2. Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
   4. Outcomes Identification
      1. Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care.
      2. Create and evaluate patient care plans with the medical team.
   5. Planning
      1. Define the care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
      2. Maintain and update the technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
      3. Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.

   6. Intervention & Implementation
      1. Develop a plan of care for each patient.
      2. Assess and manage all patient populations with appropriate intervention.
      3. Insert, manage, and discontinue intravenous catheters and intraurethral catheters.
      4. Record vital signs, recognize, and address abnormalities.
      5. Perform essential life support (BLS)
      6. Support patient with personal care activities such as feeding, dressing, and performing hygiene.
      7. Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
      8. Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
      9. Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
      10. Provide wound care management.
      11. Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.
      12. Collect blood samples and other body fluids specimens for laboratory work.
      13. Operate and monitor medical equipment.
      14. Facilitate the process of safe patient’s admission and discharge.
      15. Transfer patient safely into and out of bed and chair
      16. Provide patient care while maintaining the basic principle of medicine of “do no harm.
      17. Record details and symptoms of the patient medical history and current health

4. Provides direct care and related duties in critical care and maintains current knowledge of critical care nursing practice and standards.

7. Provides comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative nursing care to all patients undergoing the procedure of cardiac catheterization
8. Predominant role in preparation, administration and documentation of medication.
9. Assists the Physician in the procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique
10. Strictly adheres to the procedure of ‘TIME OUT’
11. Competent in monitoring of patients during and post sedation / anesthesia
12. Assists with transfer of patients within the health care facilities and serves as transport nurse for patients during ambulance transport.
13. Demonstrates competency in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
14. Maintains and updates all relevant patient documentation / medical records as per hospital policy and procedure.
15. Follows the reporting mechanisms / chain of command in the nursing services department. All patient care issues shall be correctly and promptly reported.
16. Demonstrates an economical approach to the utilization of equipment’s and supplies while assisting the head nurse to maintain an appropriate ward stock
17. Takes responsibility for the unit in the absence of the Charge Nurse as assigned
18. Responsible for checking the crash cart as per the checklist
19. Responsible for maintaining inventory checklist of medications including high alert medications and narcotics as per hospital policy
20. Responsible for maintaining inventory checklist of Hazmat items including MSDS as per hospital policy
21. Ensures preventative and ongoing maintenance of equipment is carried out, reporting all failures or deficiencies through appropriate department head
22. Demonstrates strict adherence to all hospital policies and procedures
23. Demonstrates sound knowledge and participates in fire safety, patient safety, infection control and the other necessary precautions as per hospital policy.
24. Takes responsibility for professional clinical practice and is actively involved in updating and continuing education.
25. Performs any other assigned responsibilities as identified by the Charge Nurse / Supervisor / Nursing Director.
26. Responsible for implementing health and safety measures related to the Pandemic for themselves and others by their actions or omissions, and continue the provision of health‑care during a pandemic
27. Responsible to comply with the managements instructions and policies, i.e. follow safe work practices, use equipment, wear protective equipment, participate in training, and report hazards or injury, etc.
28. Responsible to monitor their own health and immediately report any issues of concern to their HOD.
