Job summary

Amazon AWS is seeking a Regional Environmental Engineer to oversee environmental compliance for AWS data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. You will develop regional programs, set metrics, and guide cross-functional teams including construction, operations, and engineers.

You will partner with government agencies and contractors to ensure adherence to UAE and Bahrain regulations, drive continuous improvement, and implement ISO14001-aligned programs across regional sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Environmental / Civil / Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of UAE/Bahrain environmental regulations with experience in environmental compliance permitting waste management and water discharge requirements.
• Experience implementing environmental management systems (such as ISO14001) and conducting environmental impact assessments.
• Project management experience with proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Knowledge of critical data center equipment.
• Knowledge of engineering documentation electrical diagrams and standard operating procedures.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety BOCA NFPA NEC or OSHA.
• Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure.
• Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure.
• Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains.

• Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.
• Submit time-critical reports to various governmental agencies.
• Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective action.

Key job responsibilities

The Regional Environmental Engineer (REE) will be responsible for environmental compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The REE will develop standards and policies to support regulatory compliance and provide environmental compliance guidance for regional operations and construction teams. The individual will complete environmental performance analysis establish and monitor metrics and guide the teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards. The REE will work with internal and external partners that include government entities contractors consultants design construction operations and other key stakeholders. This position is based in the Dubai and will require regular domestic travel and occasional international travel.

The Regional Environmental Engineer must have excellent communication skills strong environmental regulatory knowledge particularly with respect to the United Arab Emirates regulations and standards demonstrated success in program management and experience leading teams in complex and technical projects. The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWSs growth around the world as well as ensuring compliance of AWSs global operations including physical data centers as well as other AWS facilities customer-facing enterprises and products. The Environmental team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWSs global environmental programs. This includes defining and implementing risk and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the of standards tools auditing and metrics and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives including those that are part of Amazons ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective environmental compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while compliance with environmental and regulations.
