Job summary

NMC Healthcare LLC in Dubai seeks a skilled sonographer to perform imaging and analysis under supervision. You will ensure high-quality images, maintain equipment and records, and provide preliminary reports for radiologists.

The role requires BSc in Radiography or equivalent with ARDMS and National License, plus 2+ years in ultrasound in acute care. Fluent English is essential; Arabic is advantageous. Dubai-based hospital network offers diverse opportunities.

  • Dedicated courses in Sonography imaging are preferred.
  • NLT 2 years post-graduate ultrasound experience in acute care hospital, including Doppler and obstetric/gynecology.
  • Specialist Certification required: NAD; Desired: NA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide preliminary reports of examinations for interpreting physician.
  • Responsible for safe and competent use of ultrasound equipment; report faults.
  • Maintain clean, tidy working environment and restock supplies.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Perform all sonographic imaging procedures independently or under the supervision of a senior Sonographer or Radiologist.
  • Analyze the output for diagnostic evaluation purpose and report to supervisor as needed.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties; report shortages to supervisor and keep ordering records.
  • Perform imaging procedures in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and protocols, applying detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce high‑diagnostic‑quality images.
  • Acquire additional images when necessary to achieve optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
  • Evaluate and assess sonographic images for acceptable quality, appropriateness and completeness; advise other staff when required.
  • Forward images to the Radiologist for review and reporting.
  • Apply independent professional and ethical judgment in the examination to ensure that anatomical, pathological and clinical conditions are accurately captured.
  • Perform advanced sonography services or other tasks delegated by the supervising physician in accordance with education, training and facility protocols.
  • Provide preliminary reports of examinations for use by the interpreting physician.
  • Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross‑sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols and liaise with the radiologist to arrange further imaging or tests.
  • Responsible for the safe and competent use of all ultrasound equipment, patient appliances and aids used in the department; report any incidents and equipment faults to senior staff in a timely manner.
  • Operate advanced software on specialist ultrasound equipment (e.g., Doppler scan).
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
  • Provide advice to medical technical staff on appropriate techniques and imagery interventions.
  • Deal with patients and clinical staff enquiries, and relay information to clinical staff where necessary.
  • Practice proper entries and records into the Hospital Information System; input the radiological images onto the Hospital PACS system.
  • Promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place; conduct method evaluation and development as per standard policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all safety and quality control programs and procedures; comply with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, and other interventions that minimize or prevent cross infections.
  • Ensure safety procedures and quality assurance tests are maintained within all sections; support clinical audit processes and report on these as agreed.
  • Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel to obtain information, explain procedures and clarify orders.
  • Participate in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses on safe and secure handling of equipment (teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, clinical presentations).
  • Participate in department programs, committees, various hospital committees and staff meetings when requested.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or online education sessions.
  • Complete all regulatory requirements, including licensure and certification, within established time frames.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems: adhere to all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures; cooperate with hospital management to meet those requirements.
  • Notify OSH hazards, incidents, near misses and issues and assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
  • Attend OSH infection control training programmes, mock drills and awareness programmes; comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Never wilfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety.
  • Comply with waste management procedures and policies; reduce, reuse, recycle waste wherever possible.
  • Participate in OSHMS audits and inspections, ensuring standards are maintained.
  • Implement Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI) policy and strategy; maintain cleanliness to reduce infection risk for patients, staff and visitors.
Qualifications & Licensure
  • BSc in Radiography, or graduate from an accredited Diploma Program (NLT 3 year syllabus) or an accredited Radiography program (NLT 2‑year syllabus) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and current National License.
  • Dedicated courses in specialised Sonography Imaging are preferred.
  • NLT 2 years of post‑graduate experience in ultrasound within an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetric/gynecology and abdominal sonography.
  • Specialist Certification required: NAD; Desired: NA.
Additional Requirements
  • Self‑motivation and ability to work under pressure.
  • Fluent spoken and written English; spoken Arabic is advantageous but not essential.
  • Supportive and caring disposition; adaptability and good time‑management skills; confidence in dealing with stressful situations.
