Job summary

InterContinental Abu Dhabi is hiring a Public Area Attendant to maintain cleanliness and presentation of the hotel's public spaces, from the lobby to guest facilities, ensuring a welcoming environment.

You will dust, vacuum, mop, and polish, restock restrooms, and respond to spills while coordinating with Housekeeping, Front Office, Engineering and Security.

The role requires flexibility to work different shifts and a professional, guest-focused approach in a luxury hotel setting.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in hotel housekeeping or related role.
• Experience in luxury or international hotels is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
• Positive, responsible, and hardworking approach.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proactive in identifying cleaning, maintenance, and safety needs.
• Basic English communication; other languages are a plus.
• Must meet physical requirements (standing, walking, lifting).
• Flexible to work evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned public areas according to hotel standards.
• Ensure lobby, corridors, elevators, restrooms, entrances and other public spaces are clean and presentable.
• Dust, vacuum, mop, polish, and clean surfaces, furniture, fixtures, glass and floors.
• Regularly check restrooms for cleanliness and stock supplies.
• Respond promptly to spills and other guest comfort or safety issues.
• Report maintenance issues and safety concerns to supervisor.
• Assist guests with basic enquiries in a warm, courteous manner.
• Coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Office, Engineering, Security and other departments.
• Support preparation and cleaning of public areas for events when required.

A little taste of your day-to-day:

As a Public Area Attendant, you will play an important role in maintaining the cleanliness, presentation, and overall appearance of our hotel’s public spaces. From the lobby and corridors to guest facilities and other shared areas, your work will help create a welcoming environment and a positive first impression for every guest.

• Cleaning and maintaining assigned public areas according to InterContinental brand and hotel standards.
• Ensuring the lobby, corridors, elevators, staircases, guest restrooms, entrances, and other public spaces remain clean and presentable throughout the day.
• Dusting, vacuuming, mopping, polishing, and cleaning surfaces, furniture, fixtures, glass, and floors as required.
• Regularly checking public restrooms and ensuring they are clean, hygienic, well presented, and fully stocked.
• Responding promptly to cleaning requirements, spills, and other situations that may affect guest comfort or safety.
• Ensuring high-touch areas are cleaned regularly in accordance with established hygiene standards.
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of housekeeping equipment, trolleys, storage areas, and supplies.
• Using cleaning equipment, materials, and chemicals correctly and safely in accordance with hotel procedures.
• Identifying and reporting maintenance issues, damages, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Handling and reporting lost and found items according to hotel procedures.
• Assisting guests with basic enquiries and requests in a warm, courteous, and professional manner.
• Coordinating closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Engineering, Security, and other departments to maintain hotel standards.
• Supporting the preparation and cleaning of public areas for special events and functions when required.
• Following all health, safety, hygiene, security, and environmental procedures.
• Using hotel supplies and resources responsibly while minimizing unnecessary waste.
• Maintaining professional grooming and presentation standards at all times.
• Demonstrating IHG values through positive and respectful interactions with guests and colleagues.

What we need from you:

• Previous experience as a Public Area Attendant, Housekeeping Attendant, Cleaner, or in a similar role, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment.
• Previous experience within a luxury or international hotel would be an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
• A positive, responsible, and hardworking approach.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to the wider Housekeeping team.
• A proactive approach to identifying cleaning, maintenance, and safety requirements.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and safe chemical handling would be an advantage.
• A genuine commitment to guest service and maintaining hotel standards.
• The ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating cleaning equipment throughout the shift.
• Flexibility to work different shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Basic English communication skills; additional languages would be an advantage.
