Whats the roleThe Technical Lead - Geophysics will provide geophysical support for the company's Sales & Marketing Operations and Engineering Development departments for both OBN & MTS activities. The role is charged with ensuring data quality assurance of surveys, starting from receipt of the tender from Sales through the transmission of final deliverables to the client.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support for Sales
- Provide alternative and/or additional survey designs or layouts to more efficiently meet clients' geophysical objectives.
- Review incoming data acquisition tender requests and provide technical responses, including technical exceptions, survey area maps, shooting plan scenarios, and source modelling.
- Complete project time and motion estimations where required.
- Support for Marketing
- Contribute to the technical standing of the company through publications at industry conferences and in industry journals.
- Assist in the development of the company's Geophysical Initiatives.
- Attend Client Meetings as required. As an expert, participate in meetings and contribute actively to the development of client relations and the promotion of the company's image of excellence.
- Compile and present geophysical and technical slides, showcasing Company geophysical initiatives.
- Support for Operations
- Prepare project start-up documentation, including preplots, shooting plans, operational maps, and parameter sheets as appropriate for the seismic method.
- Attend seismic project kick-off, start-up, and close-out meetings if required to represent Geophysical Services and Technology group.
- Review end-of-job reports for accuracy and quality.
- Conduct problem dataset analysis with appropriate reporting.
- Assist in designing, writing, and implementing procedures, methods, and technical content that facilitate good survey practices and safe, effective operations of the Geophysical Department. Contribute to continual improvement and review of working practices and standards.
- Propose and implement best practices, new technologies, and methodologies in QC processing offshore and geophysical support onshore.
- Ensure the geophysical quality of projects by assisting offshore QC Geophysicists to optimize sequences and parameters, and contribute to the test and QC plan adapted to the project.
- Monitor geophysical-related downtime and inform management of potential means to reduce downtime.
- Review detailed analysis and provide weekly recommendations for ongoing projects, focusing on data quality, vessel performance, coverage, and infill.
- Monitor the health of the deployed receiver spread.
- Support and supervise production processing efforts for the project, whether onboard or by third parties onshore.
- Support for Engineering Development
- Provide geophysical input into research and development initiatives.
- Conduct technical studies and tests to validate new technologies and methodologies in cooperation with Engineering Development.
- Assist in planning, execution, and analysis of acquisition technology tests.
- Develop and design source and receiver configurations.
- General
- Stay updated on changes in seismic data acquisition and processing technology.
- Administer the company's seismic project documentation sharing portal and maintain all ITT & project location history.
- Track and maintain department assets according to company procedures and best practices.
- Maintain the necessary software toolbox.
RequirementsWho are we looking for- Expert knowledge of all marine seismic acquisition methods, associated layouts, geometries, and operational practices.
- Strong experience with a streamer vessel.
- Expert knowledge of seismic QC products and workflows.
- Good understanding of seismic theory and its applications.
- Good understanding of marine seismic acquisition technologies.
- Competency with at least one industry-standard seismic data processing package.
- Competency with an industry-standard survey planning package.
- At least a degree in Geoscience, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline, or extensive industry experience.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with superiors, peers, and reports.
- Ability to work as a team player with initiative and a drive for achievement.
