About the job PROCESS SAFETY ENGINEER
As a Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining process safety management (PSM) systems, ensuring compliance with ADNOC Group HSE standards, and supporting the safe and reliable operation of onshore production facilities. The role focuses on hazard identification, risk assessment, integrity management, and design assurance for all process safetyrelated aspects of the project lifecycle.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and maintain ADNOCs Corporate Process Safety Management Framework and relevant codes, standards, and guidelines.
- Lead and participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, QRA, LOPA, Bow-Tie, and SIMOPS studies during design, construction, and operation phases.
- Ensure process safety considerations are integrated into design reviews, modifications, and management of change (MOC) processes.
- Review and endorse process safety deliverables from EPC contractors, including PFDs, P&IDs, safeguarding memoranda, and safety design philosophies.
- Conduct and validate risk assessments for new and existing facilities.
- Monitor implementation of risk mitigation measures and ensure closure of process safetyrelated actions.
- Perform barrier management and assurance activities in line with ADNOC Onshores Safety Case and Asset Integrity Management System.
- Support investigation of process-related incidents and near misses; identify root causes and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
- Facilitate learning from incidents (LFI) sessions and share lessons across teams.
- Ensure full compliance with ADNOC Group HSE Standards, Codes of Practice, and UAE regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal and external HSE audits and process safety reviews.
- Track and report process safety KPIs (e.g., Tier 1 & Tier 2 process safety events).
- Provide technical guidance to engineering, operations, and maintenance teams on process safety matters.
- Support start-up readiness reviews, pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and operational risk assessments.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance overall process safety culture and performance.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualifications or certifications in Process Safety (preferred).
- 8-12 years of relevant experience in oil & gas or petrochemical industries, with at least 5 years in process safety engineering roles.
- Proven experience with ADNOC projects or other major operators in the Middle East preferred.
- Hands-on experience with PHA software tools (PHA-Pro, PHAWorks, BowTieXP, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of ADNOC HSE Standards, API, NFPA, OSHA, and IEC safety standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary project environment.
- Proficient in process engineering and safety software tools.
