LevelUP HCS is seeking an experienced Guidance and Control Engineer to develop flight control software for smart weapons in Abu Dhabi, on-site. The role covers design, development and validation of autopilot and mission control systems, along with LAR/MPS and 6-DOF simulation work.

You will work with DO-178B/C or MIL-STD-498 standards, perform lab and field tests, and ensure rigorous safety analyses and documentation across ICD, SDD and VDD artifacts.

Qualifications

  • 4 Year Bachelor's degree in Software, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science; Master's preferred.
  • 10-15 years with smart weapons defense industry experience.
  • Kalman filter, guidance systems and flight control experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain Guidance and Control algorithms (Autopilot and Mission control).
  • Develop LAR and MPS algorithms for release regions and mission planning.
  • Create and maintain 6-DOF simulation models; participate in HILS development.
  • Maintain Aerodynamic model and deliver aero tables per subcontractor format.
  • Conduct Lab and Flight Tests; analyze data and write reports on parameter compliance.
  • Analyze software requirements for guidance and control system as per product specs.
  • Design software architecture; ensure real-time performance, fault tolerance, and safety.
  • Code and implement algorithms; follow standards and style guidelines.
  • Perform Verification and Validation per DO-178B/C or MIL-STD-498.
  • Manage Configuration Management and traceability of requirements to design and code.
  • Create and maintain ICD, SDD, Algorithm Design documents and VDD.
  • Ensure compliance with DO-178B/C and MIL-STD-882E safety standards.

Job title: Guidance and Control Engineer (On-site in Abu Dhabi)

Job Summary

This position will be responsible the development and implementation of smart weapons flight control software on new and existing products that are produced by the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Flight control: Design, develop and maintain Guidance and Control algorithms to meet performance objectives as specified by the product specifications. This entails Autopilot as well as Mission control design.
  • LAR & MPS: Design, develop and maintain the Launch-Acceptable Region (LAR) and Mission Planning System (MPS) algorithms related to LAR inputs and outputs. This includes the calculation of the release-regions, where performance of the weapon is assured, as well as critical mission info, such as estimated trajectory data, flight times and predicted impact angles and speed.
  • 6DOF & HILS: Custodian of and developer of the Six-Degree-of-Freedom (6-DOF) simulation models. Participate in the development of Hardware-In-The-Loop (HILS) simulation models.
  • Aerodynamic Model: Custodian and implementation, QA/validation (by means of flighttest data) and maintenance of the Aerodynamic model with Aero tables as delivered to specified format by the sub-contractor.
  • Flight & Lab Tests: Participate in Lab and Flight Tests which includes: reduction and analysis of test data, write analysis reports and review & report product parameter compliance with product specifications.
  • Requirements Analysis: Analyzing and understanding the software requirements for the guidance and control system, as specified by the product requirement specification.
  • Software Design: Designing the software architecture and components that will implement the Guidance and Control algorithms, ensuring adherence to the relevant standards and guidelines. This includes considering factors like real-time performance, fault tolerance, and safety.
  • Coding and Implementation: Writing the software code that translates the Guidance and Control algorithm design into a working software system. Following coding best practices and standards, such as coding conventions and style guidelines specified in the relevant standards.
  • Verification and Validation: Conducting thorough testing and verification of the software to ensure that it meets the specified requirements. This involves creating test plans, executing tests, and documenting the results. The verification and validation process should comply with the applicable standards, such as DO-178B/C for airborne software or MIL-STD-498 for software development.
  • Configuration Management: Managing the software configuration throughout the development lifecycle. This includes version control, maintaining baselines, and ensuring traceability between software requirements, design, and implementation.
  • Documentation: Creating and maintaining Algorithm Design document, Interface Control Documentation (ICD), Software Detailed Design Document (SDD), Algorithm Test
  • Specification, Test Reports and Version Description Document (VDD).
  • Compliance with Standards: Ensuring compliance with the relevant standards and guidelines throughout the software development process. This includes following standards like DO-178B/C for airborne software, MIL-STD-498 for software development.
  • Safety and Risk Analysis: Identifying potential safety hazards and risks associated with the software and its interaction with the munition system. Performing safety analyses, such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), in accordance with the relevant safety standards, such as DO-178B/C or MIL-STD-882E.

General:

  • Production line support: Participate in Fault Investigations, MRB and PCMBs to identify, define and resolve software, hardware, system, performance and/or flight control related issues.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 4 Year Bachelor's degree (Software, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science) or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience, Master's degree preferred.
