The role will report to the Mobility and Transportation Lead in Dubai and work closely with the Group Director Smart Cities & Urban Infrastructure Transformation (SUIT) and other Associate Directors.
Manage the role of Principal Transport Planner / Traffic Engineering for projects in the MENA & GCC region, focusing on analyzing and improving transportation systems.
The Principal Transport Planner is a senior technical resource and serves as a technical advisor for the team. Responsibilities include planning work, providing technical reviews and quality management, sharing expertise through internal communication and presentations, and developing high-quality design outputs. The role involves hands-on design capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a pivotal figure within the team, acting as a line manager and mentor, fostering growth and development among team members.
- Monitor timekeeping and conduct performance reviews, offering constructive feedback.
- Guide and support less experienced staff, delegate tasks, and ensure project completion to high standards.
- Demonstrate financial management skills by monitoring and tracking budgets for assigned projects, contributing to team success.
Education & Qualifications
- Approved as a Traffic Engineer (Level 3 TIS) by Dubai RTA and Abu Dhabi ITC, with thorough understanding of their procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Urban Planning, or related field (mandatory).
- Master’s degree in Transportation Planning from a recognized university.
- Chartership/certification/license from a recognized professional body (e.g., P.E., P.Eng., C.Eng., CIHT, CILT) is preferred.
- 12-15 years relevant experience in civil engineering, transport planning, infrastructure planning, urban master planning, and traffic impact studies in the GCC region.
Technical Excellence
- Lead and contribute to transportation master planning, Traffic Impact Studies, and Smart, Sustainable, and Future Mobility projects.
- Perform quality control reviews of transport planning and engineering reports, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with technical teams to validate project approaches and review deliverables, providing planning and design inputs.
- Liaise with authorities for permits and approvals, resolving technical conflicts.
- Own transport planning projects, leading analysis, modeling, and strategic planning to ensure timely completion.
- Lead transport planning tasks, with experience using traffic engineering software like SIDRA, SYNCHRO, HCM, etc., and understanding transport modeling in GCC.
- Report and present project findings, interpreting solutions and mitigation measures to stakeholders.
- Develop project scopes and methodologies, estimating technical effort.
- Support infrastructure projects related to traffic management, parking, EV charging, micro-mobility, and connected vehicle systems.
Project Management
May act as Project Manager for small to medium discipline-specific projects, with a strong understanding of project delivery and proficiency in Earned Value Management.
