Job summary

Petrofac is seeking a Principal Advisor - HSSE to lead HSE programs across oil, gas and petrochemical projects. The role requires directing daily HSE activities, developing MS documentation and driving risk controls to ALARP levels.

You will lead audits, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance across designated sites with strong English communication. Ideal candidates have 8–10 years in HSE, NEBOSH IGC, and ISO 45001/14001 auditing experience.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years’ experience in HSE within oil & gas, petrochemical, or related fields.
• NEBOSH IGC or equivalent certification.
• Lead or Internal Auditor (ISO 45001/ISO 14001).
• Incident investigation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day HSE activities in designated areas.
• Develop and maintain HSE management system documentation.
• Initiate and support HSE awareness programs and risk controls.
• Ensure hazard identification, risk assessments and ALARP controls are applied.
• Lead or participate in audits, inspections, and performance reviews.
• Coordinate HSE input to action tracking and reporting.

JOB TITLE: Principal Advisor - HSSE

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day HSE activities in accordance with designated areas of responsibility.
• Develop and maintain necessary HSE MS documentation for the project.
• Initiate and support HSE Awareness programs and campaigns.
• Application of hazard identification and risk assessment processes in designated areas of responsibility and implementation of appropriate control measures to reduce the risks to ALARP.
• Participate in the review of the effectiveness of hazard controls/mitigations.
• Participate in implementing HSE lessons learned within designated areas of responsibility and communicating more widely where appropriate.
• Provide input to the HSE component of the action tracking system.
• Ensure HSE requirements are communicated to all relevant personnel in designated areas of responsibility and verify compliance by all appropriate means (meetings, inspections, monitoring, and audits).
• Assist fully in the investigation of incidents and near misses.
• Organize and participate fully and openly in all compliance assurance audits, inspections, performance meetings, etc.
• Ensure Objectives, Policies and Procedures are implemented in designated areas of responsibility.
• Provide input HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON, ENVID , QRA Workshops organized by HSE Design.
• Carry out other related duties as advised by the supervisor.

Essential Qualifications And Experience

• Bachelor Degree (4 years) OR Diploma (3 years) (from an institution of higher learning authorized to grant academic degrees in the country of issue)
• NEBOSH IGC or equivalent
• Lead or Internal Auditor (ISO 45001/ ISO 14001)
• Incident Investigation techniques.
• Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in HSE in construction, fabrication, installation and/or commissioning projects / operations in the oil & gas or petrochemical industries.

Skills And Competencies

• Have strong understanding of the HSE issues, practices and behavioral aspects in the Oil & Gas EPC business.
• Able to lead a team of HSE personnel such as HSE officers, Hygiene officers etc.
• Sound understanding of the HSE Management System and HSE legislative requirements.
• Ability to develop and implement HSE plans, Welfare plans, Emergency response procedures/plans and site specific HSE procedures / work instructions.
• Practical experience in implementation of Safe System of Work (PTW/ WMS/ Risk Assessment etc.).
• Ability to conduct training/awareness sessions on relevant HSE procedures applicable to the scope of work.
• Ability to implement practical H2S control measures.
• Ability to conduct HSE audits and inspections.
• Ability to investigate incidents, identify immediate and root causes.
• Effective interpersonal and verbal & written communication skills in English.
