Context

The Primary Teacher - PYP will plan, teach, assess, and support students within a school that combines PYP, British, and IB pathways. The role requires the teacher to create a strong climate for learning, set clear objectives, use assessment for learning, maintain high expectations, and adapt teaching for SEN, POD, EAL, and gifted and talented students. By contributing to curriculum planning, parent communication, after‑school activities, staff duties, and wider school programmes, the teacher will help strengthen student achievement, inquiry‑based learning, and whole‑child development at Bateen World Academy.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high‑quality primary lessons in line with the school's Teaching and Learning Policy and IB PYP expectations.
• Create a classroom climate that supports outstanding learning, student confidence, curiosity, and active participation.
• Identify clear teaching and learning objectives and use them to guide lesson structure, activities, assessment, and feedback.
• Set clear targets for students by building on prior attainment and understanding individual learning needs.
• Differentiate teaching for SEN, POD, EAL, and gifted and talented students so all learners are appropriately supported and challenged.
• Prepare lessons and learning activities that maintain pace, engagement, challenge, and meaningful inquiry.
• Use assessment for learning strategies to check understanding and improve specific aspects of teaching and student progress.
• Use performance data, assessment outcomes, and key indicators to inform planning and targeted intervention.
• Integrate ICT effectively to enhance learning, creativity, progress, and student engagement.
• Maintain discipline in line with the school's Behaviour for Learning Policy and promote punctuality, positive behaviour, strong work habits, and homework standards.
• Mark student work at least once every two weeks and set clear targets for improvement in line with the school's Marking Policy.
• Assess and record student progress systematically, maintaining accurate records that inform future learning and planning.
• Undertake student assessments as required by school procedures, departments, and examination bodies where applicable.
• Prepare and present informative reports to parents that clearly explain achievement, progress, strengths, and next steps.
• Attend and support parent events, student events, school activities, and community engagement opportunities.
• Contribute to subject development by producing, reviewing, and updating curriculum plans and schemes of work.
• Keep subject knowledge current through continuous professional development, professional reading, and reflective practice.
• Lead or support one after‑school activity each term as part of the school's CAS programme, excluding IGCSE and IB DP revision or booster sessions.
• Serve as an Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor for Year 12 and Year 13 students when assigned.
• Undertake staff duty rota responsibilities and cover for absent colleagues when required.
• Invigilate examinations as needed to support the Examinations Officer and summer examination schedule.
• Carry out additional duties assigned by the Principal in line with school needs and professional expectations.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education.
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience.
• Very good or outstanding classroom teacher with proven success across the ability range.
• Experience teaching the IB Primary Years Programme or British curriculum.
• Experience working in more than one international school is desirable.
• Strong understanding of inquiry‑based learning, curriculum planning, student assessment, differentiation, and classroom management.
• Knowledge of UAE Ministry of Education and ADEK regulations.
• Commitment to the school's vision, IB philosophy, and IB mission statement.
• Passion for education, teaching, and the belief that every student has strong potential.
• Able to use assessment data to improve planning, support progress, and identify learning gaps.
• Confident supporting students with SEN, POD, EAL, and gifted and talented needs.
