Job summary

Wood is seeking an experienced Specialist Engineer, Telecom to lead the design, installation and maintenance of telecom systems for offshore and onshore energy projects. You will develop telecom deliverables, coordinate with electrical and process teams, and ensure compliance with international standards.

Responsibilities include FAT/SAT witnesses, vendor reviews, and supporting FEED through commissioning. Offshore experience and GCC regional knowledge are preferred, with strong English and HSE

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 15+ years of relevant offshore/onshore oil & gas experience.
• Experience with PMC, EPC or FEED projects is preferred.
• Excellent communication and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and approve telecom designs, calculations, specs and drawings.
• Design and implement telecom systems (fiber, LAN/WAN, microwave, CCTV, access control, etc.).
• Support FEED, EPC and detailed engineering through commissioning.
• Review vendor proposals and conduct technical evaluations.
• Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, and process teams for integration.
• Ensure compliance with standards, codes, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and risk assessments.
• Provide support during procurement, fabrication, testing, and FAT/SAT.

The key objectives for this role are:

• Develop, review, and optimize telecommunications system designs for offshore/onshore oil & gas, energy, or industrial facilities.
• Ensure telecom systems comply with project specifications, client requirements, and international standards
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables, drawings, datasheets, and technical specifications
• Support project execution from FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Ensure telecom engineering deliverables are completed within project schedules and budgets.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary engineering interfaces and resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, review, and approve telecom engineering designs, calculations, specifications, datasheets, and drawings for project execution.

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of telecom systems with electrical, instrumentation, control, and process facilities.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, international codes, project specifications, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, technical workshops, and risk assessments.
• Resolve technical queries, design issues, and telecom interface challenges during project execution.
• Monitor engineering progress and support achievement of project milestones, budgets, and quality objectives.
• Review and approve telecom equipment layouts, network architectures, cable routing, and communication system configurations.
• Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Witness and evaluate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and system performance testing.

Expected:

• Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum of fifteen (15+) years of relevant experience in the Offshore/Onshore Oil & Gas industry, including minimum (5) years (preferred) in GCC region
• Must have at least five (5) years of experience in similar position in a mega Oil & Gas or Petrochemical projects. Managing team of Specialists, Senior Engineers and Engineers.
• Offshore experience is must, whilst ADNOC experience is desired
• PMC experience is required
• Fully coherent in all international codes andstandards
• Excellent command of both spoken and written English is required
• Enthusiastic, conscientious and keen to learn / Flexible with a can-doattitude
• Working hands on Experience onSPEL
• Must have working knowledge and experience of electrical discipline relevant offshore/onshore oil and gas industry codes, specifications andpractices
• Previous experience of working in the Middle East would be an advantage
