The PLC & SCADA Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for water and wastewater treatment plants. The role involves integrating instrumentation, electrical systems, VFDs, analyzers, and field devices to ensure reliable plant operation and compliance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design PLC control systems for water and wastewater treatment plants.
- Develop PLC software in accordance with project specifications and functional design documents.
- Design and configure SCADA and HMI applications for plant monitoring and control.
- Prepare control philosophies, I/O lists, network architecture, and automation documentation.
- Review P&IDs, electrical drawings, and control panel drawings.
PLC Programming
- Develop PLC programs for treatment processes:
- o Profibus o Profinet o Ethernet/IP
- o OPC
SCADA Development
- Develop graphical SCADA screens.
- Configure alarms and event logging.
- Configure historical trending and reporting.
- Implement user access levels and security.
- Integrate PLCs with SCADA servers.
- Perform FAT (Factory Acceptance Test).
- Perform SAT (Site Acceptance Test).
- Commission PLC and SCADA systems at site.
- Conduct I/O testing and loop checking.
- Troubleshoot automation and communication issues.
Instrumentation & Electrical Coordination
- Interface with field instruments including:
- o Flow meters
- o Level transmitters
- o pH analyzers
- o Conductivity analyzers
- o DO analyzers
- o Turbidity analyzers
- o Chlorine analyzers
- Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams during installation and commissioning.
Documentation
- Prepare:
- o Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- o Operation Manuals
- o As-built Documentation
- o Backup of PLC and SCADA programs
- o Technical Reports
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering / Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering.
- 2–8 years of experience in industrial automation.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Water or Wastewater Treatment projects.
