The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating project schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of construction projects. The role involves coordinating with project teams, analyzing risks, and ensuring alignment with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent tools.
- Prepare baseline programs, work breakdown structures (WBS), and construction methodologies.
- Ensure project schedules align with contractual milestones and client requirements.
- Develop short‑term and long‑term planning strategies to optimize project execution.
Progress Monitoring & Control
- Track project progress, identify delays, and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct critical path analysis (CPA) to assess project timelines and potential risks.
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly progress reports to management and clients.
- Monitor resource allocation and highlight potential inefficiencies.
Delay Analysis & Claims
- Analyze project delays and prepare extension of time (EOT) claims.
- Identify bottlenecks and risks, proposing mitigation strategies to minimize delays.
- Support the commercial team in contractual claims and variation orders.
Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
- Work closely with project managers, site engineers, quantity surveyors, and subcontractors.
- Provide technical input for tender schedules, contract programs, and cash flow forecasts.
- Participate in progress meetings and present project status updates.
Quality, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure schedules comply with project specifications, company policies, and local regulations.
- Assist in planning and scheduling HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) activities.
- Implement best practices in planning, risk assessment, and project execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5–10 years of experience in planning and scheduling in the construction industry.
