Job summary

Newsela is seeking a Senior Web Developer to build scalable PHP/MySQL applications and modern WordPress solutions in a fast-paced environment. You will translate complex product requirements into robust technical approaches, write unit tests, and collaborate on REST API integration while maintaining coding standards and scalable architecture.

This role emphasizes quality and reliability. Strong English communication and a bias for action are valued as Newsela expands its education technology

Qualifications

• 7+ years of website development using PHP and MySQL.
• Advanced knowledge of custom WordPress development, data modeling, and infrastructure.
• Advanced knowledge of semantic HTML, responsive CSS, and modern design patterns.
• Experience building complex web applications with REST APIs.
• Intermediate to advanced understanding of relational databases and developer tooling.
• Professional proficiency in English.
• Experience with unit test writing.
