Job summary

NMC in Abu Dhabi is seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to join its clinical laboratory team. You will collect blood specimens by venipuncture and skin puncture, ensuring correct patient identification and proper sample labeling.

The role requires knowledge of color-top tube usage, adherence to EHS procedures, and capacity to work efficiently in a busy blood collection area. Fluency in English is required; Arabic is desirable.

Qualifications

• Valid DOH license or exam passed as phlebotomist.
• Certificate of training in an approved phlebotomy program or related diploma/degree.
• Minimum two years of practical phlebotomy experience in a medical lab.
• Currently licensed in country of origin.
• Fluent in English; Arabic language desirable but not essential.
• Willingness to learn automation and IT programs.

Responsibilities

• Identify patient by requisition and verify identity before venipuncture.
• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and promptly.
• Know color-top tubes and blood volume required; assist in the clinical lab as needed.
• Collect samples (blood, cultures) and maintain blood collection room cleanliness.
• Comply with EHS instructions and safety procedures; report hazards and incidents.
• Prepare risk assessments and ensure proper waste handling per policy.

Job description

Phlebotomists are health care professionals who have been trained to collect patient's blood specimens by venipuncture and by microcollection techniques.

Responsibilities

1. Identifies the patient - comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s identification before venipuncture is performed.
2. Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
3. Must have the complete knowledge about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed - knows test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed.
4. Responsibilities include bleeding time tests, blood cultures, blood samples collection and look after the blood collection room requirements and maintain the cleanliness and decorum the blood collection rooms.
5. 1. Comply with reasonable EHS Instructions, safe working procedures, local regulations, departmental EHS Objectives and Targets, emergency and evacuation procedures
   2. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (Eg: Hand gloves, face shield, Goggle's, Respirators, apron etc.) that should be used in the section and safety systems followed at all times thereby not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety
   3. Assist with the preparation of risk assessments
   4. Report EHS Hazards, incidents ,Near misses and issues
6. Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible
7. Attend all EHS Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills
8. Proper collection, Storage and disposal of hazardous materials as per NMCSH Waste management policy
9. Must be familiar with the concept of hazard and bio hazardous materials, safe handling of bio hazardous materials present in the working section.
10. Must be familiar with ergonomic, sharps and biological hazards in work area and how to handle them.
11. Should be familiar with MSDS to determine health hazards, and routes of exposures for chemicals.
12. Know the CODE white policy and other applicable laboratory policies and procedures

Qualifications

1. Valid DOH License/Exam Passed as Phlebotomist
2. Certificate of training in an approved Phlebotomy program or Diploma (1 year) Medical Laboratory Technology or Degree in any health-related field.
3. Minimum of two (2) year practical experience as Phlebotomist in a reputed Medical Laboratory.
4. Currently licensed in country of origin
5. Fluent in spoken & written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential.
6. Ability to learn and handle automation & IT programs is desirable but not essential.
