Role Context

The Pediatric Endocrinologist provides specialized diagnostic and longitudinal care for children with hormonal, metabolic and growth-related disorders. Many pediatric endocrine conditions require years of monitoring, careful medication adjustment and close coordination between families and multidisciplinary clinical teams. The role has a direct impact on growth, development and long-term health by supporting early diagnosis and effective management of conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, thyroid disease, abnormal puberty and congenital endocrine disorders. The physician also helps families understand complex treatment plans, use diabetes technologies safely and make appropriate lifestyle adjustments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess infants, children and adolescents presenting with suspected endocrine or metabolic disorders.
• Diagnose and manage Type 1 diabetes in pediatric patients.
• Provide specialist management for children and adolescents with Type 2 diabetes.
• Develop individualized insulin and glucose management plans according to age and clinical requirements.
• Monitor glycemic control and adjust treatment based on laboratory findings, glucose data and clinical response.
• Manage pediatric patients using insulin pump therapy where clinically appropriate.
• Interpret data from continuous glucose monitoring systems.
• Educate families on glucose monitoring, insulin administration and prevention of diabetes-related complications.
• Evaluate children presenting with short stature or abnormal growth patterns.
• Investigate growth hormone deficiency and other causes of impaired growth.
• Develop long-term treatment and monitoring plans for growth disorders.
• Diagnose and manage thyroid conditions including congenital and acquired thyroid disease.
• Evaluate delayed puberty and determine appropriate diagnostic and treatment pathways.
• Assess and manage precocious puberty.
• Diagnose adrenal disorders affecting pediatric patients.
• Manage pituitary conditions involving hormonal dysfunction.
• Evaluate congenital endocrine and metabolic abnormalities.
• Provide outpatient consultations for new and established pediatric endocrine patients.
• Manage hospitalized children requiring specialist endocrine assessment.
• Review biochemical, hormonal and imaging investigations relevant to endocrine diagnosis.

Ideal Profile

The position requires an MBBS or equivalent recognized medical qualification together with specialist postgraduate training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology. Candidates should hold Board Certification or Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology, such as American Board, UK CCT, Canadian Board or another recognized equivalent qualification. A minimum of 3-7 years of post-specialist experience is expected, preferably within a tertiary-care hospital, academic medical center or established pediatric subspecialty service. Strong clinical expertise is required across pediatric diabetes, growth disorders, thyroid disease, puberty disorders, adrenal conditions and pituitary abnormalities. Experience managing complex cases such as short stature, precocious puberty, delayed puberty and congenital endocrine disease is important. Practical knowledge of modern pediatric diabetes technology, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems, would provide a strong advantage. Previous involvement in multidisciplinary pediatric endocrine clinics, structured diabetes programs, research or academic teaching is desirable. Candidates should meet the professional licensing or eligibility requirements applicable to pediatric endocrinology practice in the United Arab Emirates.
