Oracle Fusion Tech Lead - Reporting (BIP / OTBI) and Extensions (VBCS
Experience: 8-10 years | Location: Onsite, Dubai / Abu Dhabi (customer location) | Positions: 2
Technical lead for Oracle Fusion Financials at an enterprise UAE client, owning two workstreams: custom reporting (BI Publisher and OTBI) and application extensions (Visual Builder Cloud Service, Application Composer, OIC integrations), working with business users and an offshore development team.
Lead-level requirements (mandatory)
- 8-10 years of Oracle technical experience with hands-on Oracle Fusion Cloud delivery.
- Hands-on BI Publisher and OTBI development for Fusion Financials, evidenced at project level: data models, RTF/Excel/eText templates, bursting, performance tuning.
- Hands-on Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS) development integrated with Fusion via REST and OIC, evidenced at project level.
- Experience leading and reviewing the work of offshore developers.
Key responsibilities
Reporting (BI Publisher / OTBI)
- Lead end-to-end design and development of custom BIP reports (RTF, PDF, Excel, eText) and OTBI analyses/dashboards for Oracle Fusion Financials modules (GL, AP, AR, FA, CM, Expenses, Tax, Procurement).
- Architect complex, multi-data-model BIP reports involving sub-templates, bursting, and conditional formatting for statutory, regulatory, and management reporting.
- Serve as the technical lead for reporting and customizations, requirements gathering, translating complex business needs (e.g., financial statements, reconciliation reports, statutory reports, tax reports) into scalable technical designs.
- Own performance tuning of high-volume financial reports.
- Design and manage bursting configurations for high-volume outputs (e.g., customer invoices, vendor payments, employee expense reports).
- Lead migration and version control of BI objects across environments using Catalog Manager, ensuring proper change management for Finance-critical reports.
- Integrate BIP/OTBI reporting with Oracle ESS jobs, FBDI processes.
- Define and enforce data security and role-based visibility for Finance reports (data roles, duty roles, ledger/BU-level security).
- Collaborate with Functional leads, auditors, and business stakeholders during period-close, audit, and statutory reporting cycles.
- Mentor junior BIP/OTBI developers and review their technical designs and code.
- Create and maintain technical documentation: data flow diagrams, data model specs, and report design documents.
- Partner with Oracle Support for SR management on product bugs and patches affecting Finance reporting.
Extensions (VBCS / Application Composer / OIC)
- Work with users and offshore teams to design and develop custom applications and UI extensions using Visual Builder Cloud Service (VBCS).
- Integrate VBCS applications with Oracle Fusion applications using REST APIs, Business Objects, and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) for data read/write operations.
- Configure and extend Application Composer objects (custom fields, business rules, groovy scripts) to support VBCS extensions and Finance process automation.
- Design and implement approval workflows and business logic using BPM/Approval Management extensions tied to Finance transactions (invoices, expense reports, journal approvals).
- Build responsive, user-friendly UI layouts using Oracle JET components within VBCS, ensuring consistency with Fusion's Redwood design standards.
- Develop and maintain REST-based integrations between VBCS apps and Fusion Financials REST APIs (e.g., Payables Invoices, Journals, Expense Reports APIs).
- Manage security and role-based access within VBCS applications, aligning with Fusion data roles/duty roles for Finance users.
- Test, debug, and troubleshoot VBCS extensions across Dev/Test/Prod environments, ensuring upgrade-safe design (avoiding disruption from Oracle's quarterly updates).
- Package, migrate, and deploy VBCS applications and extensions across environments using Oracle's migration tools.
- Document technical designs, API mappings, and application architecture for custom Finance extensions.
- Monitor Oracle's quarterly release notes for VBCS/Application Composer changes and proactively assess impact on existing extensions.
Working knowledge expected
- Fusion SaaS reporting constraints: no direct database access, so SQL runs inside BIP data models under runtime and memory limits; chunked data models, scheduled bursting, and incremental extracts are standard practice.
- OTBI vs. BIP selection judgment: cross-subject-area limitations of OTBI and when a requirement belongs in BIP, OTBI, or downstream analytics (BICC extracts to OAC/FDI).
- Visual Builder Studio (VB Studio) as Oracle's current vehicle for Fusion extensions: App UIs, express vs. advanced mode, Git-based workspaces and pipeline deployment, and how it differs from standalone VBCS instances.
- Redwood extensibility patterns: extending Redwood pages in an upgrade-safe way through VB Studio, and knowing when legacy Page Composer personalization still applies to classic pages.
- Secure Fusion REST consumption: OAuth2/JWT via Oracle identity domains, least-privilege integration users, and handling pagination and API limits on Financials endpoints.
- Security posture of custom reporting and extensions: BIP data model SQL can bypass page-level security, so data-role alignment and audit sensitivity are expected design considerations.
- Controlled change for Finance-critical outputs: template versioning, bank/statutory format testing where eText is used, safe promotion of catalog objects and extension deployments, and quarterly-update regression checklists.
Preferred
- Experience with OAC or Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI) for Finance analytics.
- Exposure to Financial Reporting Studio (FRS) / Smart View.
- Oracle Cloud certifications (Fusion Financials, Analytics/Reporting, VBCS, OIC).
When applying, your CV must explicitly cover
- List the report types you have personally built (RTF, Excel, eText, bursting configurations) and the Financials areas they covered.
- List the VBCS / VB Studio applications or page extensions you personally built, stating which were standalone apps and which were embedded Fusion page extensions.
- State the size of the offshore team you led or reviewed, and on which engagement.
- State your notice period explicitly.
- Evidence each module or skill you claim with a named project or engagement; skills lists without project detail carry no weight.
- List relevant Oracle Cloud certifications with the year obtained.
